Last year French-Belgian designer Matthieu Blazy became the creative director of Chanel after leaving Bottega Veneta.

But fashion fans will not see the first offering from Matthieu until October during the Spring 2026 season.

Founded by Gabrielle Chanel at the beginning of the last century, Chanel is renowned for its chic shows at Paris Fashion Week.

Chanel is also known for its Haute Couture collections, presented twice yearly in Paris, and for having acquired a large number of specialized suppliers, collectively known as the Métiers d’art.

Matthieu succeeded Virginie Viard, a longtime deputy of Karl Lagerfeld, who left the brand in June after five years as artistic director.

Controversial Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, was at the helm for 36 years.

Chanel’s fashion president Bruno Pavlovsk said upon Matthieu’s appointment: ‘Matthieu became an obvious choice for the brand as we came to understand his talent, his personality, his groundedness, his culture.

‘The interview process was truly inspiring as we grew to know him: his vision for creation, his modernity, his respect for and commitment to products and the women who surround and inspire him.’

Last year’s the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week in October attracted the likes f Naomi Campbell, Margaret Qualley and Lupita Nyong’o.

During the show – to present this year’s summer/spring collection – Riley Keough put on an incredible performance as she was raised into the air on a swing while singing to entertain the guests during the catwalk show.

The actress and singer, 35, looked incredible in a black jumpsuit which boasted a dramatic sheer mesh cape which draped behind her as she sat above the runway.

Riley, the granddaughter of late Rock n’ roll pioneer Elvis Presley, performed for a star-studded crowd.
