The artists featured include include the cast of World War II musical Operation Mincemeat, West End legend Samantha Barks – who will offer her powerful rendition of We’ll Meet Again – Fleur East, Calum Scott, John Newman, The Darkness, Toploader and Tom Walker.
Elsewhere, Brian Cox – celebrated for his role in Succession – will deliver a moving re-enactment of Winston Churchill’s iconic wartime speech.
Audiences will also be treated to recreations of scenes reviving the beloved TV series, Dad’s Army. Other actors who will lend their voices this evening include Joan Collins, Mary Berry and Sheila Hancock.
Zoe Ball said: ‘I’m truly honoured to play a small role in the celebrations of such a momentous occasion. My dear Dad Johnny Ball was 6 years old on VE Day, his memories of that time are incredible. Our great grandparents, and grandparents, our families, our nation went through so much.
‘The bravery and sacrifices of so many for our freedom, we must always remember and this will be a very special night with some magnificent performances.’
The event at the Royal Albert Hall, sponsored by the Daily Mail, will feature performances from mezzo-soprano Katherine and dancing from Strictly Come Dancing stars.
The show will also include first-hand recollections from military veterans and those who lived through the conflict.
Former pop star Myleene, whose father served in the Merchant Navy, said it was ‘both humbling and an honour’ to be involved.
She said: ‘With it (VE Day) being 80 years now, and as our serving personnel from that time reach an age many never thought they’d see, it’s essential we keep their sacrifices and memory alive.’
Former BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker told the Mail he considered it ‘a real privilege’ to be ‘standing on that stage introducing some amazing people’.
And Air Marshal Sir Simon Bollom, chairman of hosts SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, said the Second World War saw a period of ‘unending sacrifice across the Armed Forces’, adding: ‘We want the last World War Two veterans to know that their sacrifice is recognised, and we will not forget it.’
In a poignant reminder of that sacrifice, Sir Keir Starmer also pointed out that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine showed the Second World War was not ‘just history’.
He said: ‘I’ve got children who live in peace and in a democracy as a result of other people. The reminder, with the Ukrainian contingent in the procession, that the idea this was all just history… is completely wrong.
