MTV fans have been sent into panicked frenzy after Cory Wharton claimed that Teen Mom has been cancelled.
The 34-year-old television personality, who made his first appearance on the program in series seven of the original show in 2018, alleged in a video shared online that the franchise had ‘abruptly ended,’ however Daily Mail understands this is not the case.
Speaking in a clip posted on Snapchat earlier this week, Wharton said that he hadn’t heard ‘anything’ about the show returning.
He told his 1.4million followers: ‘I mean, it basically is cancelled at this point. It’s been about a year since we’ve filmed.’
Sources familiar told Daily Mail that there is no truth to his claims.
Teen Mom, the first spin-off of 16 and Pregnant, premiered in 2009 and ran until 2021.
In 2022, the show entered a new era under the title Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. So far, there have been two seasons of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.
Wharton had initially joined the original Teen Mom with his ex-girlfriend Cheyenne Floyd and their eight-year-old daughter, Ryder.

Following their split, he entered a relationship with fellow Ex on the Beach star Taylor Selfridge and the pair welcomed daughters Mila, five, and Maya, three.
While Wharton and Selfridge parted ways earlier this year, they have since reconciled to care for their youngest daughter, who recently underwent open heart surgery.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter season two was the most recent series to air and ended its run of episodes in May 2025.
Returning cast mates included Catelynn Baltierra, Maci McKinney, Amber Portwood, and Wharton’s ex Floyd.
There has yet to be confirmation of another series.
Speaking in his video, Wharton continued: ‘Cheyenne’s gotten pregnant in that time. But yeah, I don’t know what to tell you guys.
‘It’s a sad day over here. It’s one of those things that you always talk about – the day when it ends. How will I feel? What position will I be in?
‘I just always thought that before Teen Mom were to cancel, we’d do one season that’s like the send-off season to give the fans a good feeling leaving the franchise.
A source close to the show told Daily Mail that there is ‘no truth’ to Wharton’s claims Â
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter premiered in 2022 and has so far aired two seasonsÂ
‘But that didn’t happen. It just abruptly ended. Like, it just didn’t even get picked back up. I didn’t even watch last season, so I don’t know how all the different families’ stories played out.’
Wharton’s claims came weeks after MTV canceled comedy clip series Ridiculousness, hosted by Rob Dyrdek, after 14 years and 46 seasons.
At the beginning of the month, it was reported that previously produced episodes will continue airing through 2026, but no more original episodes will be made.
Ridiculousness’s cancelation came after MTV announced the end of Catfish: The TV Show following 13 years on air.
The cult reality series, which exposed the truths and lies behind online relationships, was culled after nine seasons.
Rob Dyrdek hosted MTV’s show Ridiculousness for 46 seasons. The show was axed earlier this monthÂ
MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show was also not renewed by the network
Some MTV fans have been worried for the network’s future given the cancelationsÂ
‘MTV is completely changing next year,’ one theorized on Reddit. ‘They wouldn’t even let Ridiculous do a 50th season. Sounds crazy, but ending at 49 is sad to me.’
‘Seriously, it felt like Ridiculousness, Catfish, and Teen Mom were the MTV brand,’ another said. ‘I have no idea what their plans are.’
A third wrote: ‘If that is true, I’m not the slightest bit surprised [about Teen Mom’s axe]. The show’s been done for the better part of the last decade so it’s about time MTV pulled the plug.’
However, a source close to the corporation said MTV cuts has nothing to do with budget, but more to do with exploring new formats.
They told Daily Mail: ‘As the company works to reimagine MTV for the future, the channel will feature a more curated slate that embraces its experimental DNA – exploring fresh formats, different creative voices, and refreshed programming.’
