Roger lost his beloved wife Joanne, 52, to cancer 18 months ago and signed up to the new ITV1 dating show in a bid to move on.
And during a chat on GMB he said that both he and his loved ones initially shared concerns he was ‘not ready’ for romance.
On the show he confirmed to hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley he had the same apprehension, saying: ‘Me as well yeah.’
He told them his stint on the show ‘was a debate in the family as well’ and added: ‘It split them down the middle.
‘But I said ‘if I had the once in a lifetime chance I am going to take it’.’
Richard then asked if the show had been a ‘journey of discovery’ for the star.
Roger again agreed and confessed: ‘I did think to myself if I met someone, I thought I would fall hard. And I did, very hard.’

Elsewhere entertainment editor Richard Arnold asked what the future held after the couple ‘fast-tracked’ their courtship.
Roger said: ‘She lives on the other side of the country to me, but it’s not an issue, I just get in my car and I smile all the way down.
‘I get on at the M25 and there’s traffic on the other side, but I just sit there smiling at them and say I’m going to meet Janey.’
As Janey then added: ‘We’ve seen each other every weekend since the show, we’ve not missed a chance and we’ll just continue to do the same but a little bit more.’
