Miley Cyrus penned her new song Secrets as an olive branch to her dad Billy Ray Cyrus.
The 32-year-old pop star — who released the deluxe version of her Something Beautiful album at midnight PST — shared a snippet of the music video via social media on Thursday evening.
She captioned the post, ‘This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same.’
The singer-songwriter also acknowledged the Fleetwood Mac bandmates who are featured on the song: ‘Thank you to Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood for bringing magic to the music.’
The note concluded with a simple, poignant revelation, ‘This song is for my dad.’
Miley sings on the track: ‘Love is not a prison / I’m not a guard, no / So even when I’m holding you / I won’t lock you up.’

And she belts in the chorus: ‘Oh, I wanna be the one / I wanna be the one / Anywhere you run (Anywhere you go) / You know I’ll follow.’
Miley, her father, and some of her siblings were locked in a contentious rift following her parents’ divorce.
Billy Ray, 64, was married to Tish Cyrus, 58, from 1993-2022.
In a June episode of Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast, Miley revealed exactly why she wrote Secrets.
‘I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know,’ she explained.
She added, ‘I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family.
‘I wanted him to think that as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that.’
In addition to Miley, Billy shares daughter Noah, 25, sons Braison, 31, Trace, 36, and daughter Brandi, 38, with Tish.
He also shares son Christopher, 33, with Kristin Luckey.

The family members mended their strained dynamic earlier this year. Fans were made aware of the reconciliation when the Party in the USA hitmaker appeared alongside her dad and brother Braison in an Instagram post in May.
Shortly after, the Achy Breaky Heart singer took to the site to heap unexpected praise upon his ex-wife on Mother’s Day.
In recognition of the holiday, the country crooner — who shares five kids with Tish — posted a solemn statement that centered around family.
Speaking highly of his ex, he said, ‘Tish Cyrus was and is the very definition of a strong mother,’ adding, ‘Trust me, I’m the first to admit… being married to me was not easy.’
Tish married Australian actor Dominic Purcell in 2023. And Billy announced his new relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley on Easter.
Miley wrote in an Instagram Story in May: ‘My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.’
Wrapping up the note, she said she’s ‘grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.’
