Miley Cyrus opened up about her lack of close friends in the music business.
In a sit-down interview on David Letterman’s Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, the 31-year-old singer revealed she doesn’t feel those who work in entertainment are ‘her people.’
‘I am not very active or a very active part of my community of other artists and entertainers and celebrities,’ she said.
Miley, whose godmother is Dolly Parton, explained: ‘It just doesn’t feel like my people when I’m in that room.’
However, she named recent collaborator Beyoncé as someone she feels she connects with.

‘But there are certain artists,’ Cyrus noted. ‘Like Beyoncé — who, like us, we’ve known each other for a long time.’
She then recounted singing alongside the Texas-bred superstar, along with Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, Ashanti, and other big name singers at the 2008 Stand Up to Cancer telethon.
‘I was, like, sandwiched between Rihanna and the Queen Bey, and they’re fully grown up, gorgeous, probably similar to my age now. Towering over me, completely stunning,’ she remembered.
‘I’m like, super small, have acne, have braces on the back of my teeth, and I’m standing next to Mariah Carey, who is dripping in diamonds. And Beyoncé was so kind to me,’ she told Letterman.
Miley joined Beyoncé on her latest album, Cowboy Carter, for the duet II Most Wanted.
The track reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100.
‘Now, just from seeing her, I’ve created, like, a relationship, maybe, a bit more in-depth,’ Miley explained.
She pointed out to the talk show host, ‘We haven’t ever had this conversation, so now maybe you and I may be more friends than I’m friends with Beyoncé, but Beyoncé and I have just the kindness and the consistency of everything.’

The former Disney star emphasized, ‘I’m part of my community in that way, but it’s all quantity — not quality. I’m not very active in that.’
Elsewhere in her interview with David, the Wrecking Ball hitmaker discussed her special relationship with godmother Dolly Parton.
‘[Dolly] isn’t afraid to have the tough conversations,’ Miley shared.
‘A tough conversation I had with her: I told her, “I’m wondering if I’m going to do the Grammys or not.”
‘And she said, “Well of course you’re going to do the Grammys, and you’re not just going to show up but you’re going to show off. And you’re going to be everything that you are sitting right here in front of me.”‘
Miley went on to deliver an electrifying performance of her hit song Flowers at the February award show and she won two awards — Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year.
