She won’t be touring anytime soon, but a select group of fans were given a rare opportunity to hear Miley Cyrus perform live during her album listening party on Tuesday evening.Â
The American singer and her famously raspy voice were centre stage at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, where she entertained a star-studded guest-list with live performances of tracks from her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful.Â
The conceptual LP and its accompanying film will be officially released on June 6, but fans were given an exclusive preview of its thirteen new songs at the Los Angeles venue.
Taking to the stage, Cyrus, 32, looked stunning in a sequinned halterneck minidress and strappy heels as she performed with the backing of a live band.Â
Celebrity guests including singer Rita Ora, actress Anya Taylor-Joy and her musician husband Malcolm McRae were in attendance along with a handful of the singer’s devoted fans during Tuesday’s special event.

In one of the biggest surprises of the night, veteran U2 legend Bono suggested he too was a closet-fan of the former Disney star by making an unexpected appearance at the Hollywood gig.Â
The event came after Cyrus shared new images to Instagram in support of the album, which is already generating positive reviews from hard to please critics.Â
The Associated Press wrote: ‘Over the years, the Grammy winner has demonstrated that she is unequivocally a pop star.Â
‘She’s also a dedicated student of contemporary music history and various genres, something she’s made clear through her love of performing cover songs and across her diverse discography (lest anyone forget her 2020 glam rock-inspired concept album, Plastic Hearts).
‘On Something Beautiful, Cyrus proves that she is most in her element musically when firmly holding onto those myriad identities, weaving together an inventive tapestry of pop, rock, electronic, disco and even funk – like in the album’s soulful, heartache anthem, Easy Lover.
‘Most of Cyrus’ album comprises ABBA-channeling earworms; End of the World has a piano riff that screams Dancing Queen. But she balances 70s nostalgia with belting vocals and wide-ranging instrumentation throughout.Â
‘Cyrus arguably hasn’t had this kind of sonic variation on a record since 2010’s Can´t Be Tamed.
‘Something Beautiful is accompanied by a musical film of the same name, which will premiere in June at the Tribeca Film Festival.Â

Cyrus went full tilt as she belted out some of her new tracks ahead of the album’s releaseÂ
‘The aptly named first track, Prelude, is a narrated introduction, which gives the wrong impression that the album only serves as a score to the film. It stands on its own.
Cyrus recently revealed a shock medical condition that prevents her from touring.
The Flowers singer, who recently admitted she ended up in the ICU, credits her signature raspy voice to a ‘very large polyp’, an abnormal growth of tissue, on her vocal cord.
She told Apple Music’s The Zane Lowe Show: ‘It’s a part of my unique anatomy.
‘[It’s] given me a lot of the tone and texture that has made me who I am, but it’s extremely difficult to perform with because it’s like running a marathon with ankle weights on.’

The singer’s numerous tattoos were evident as she performed at the Los Angeles eventÂ

Fans had their phones at the ready as Cyrus took to the stage in her silver minidress on Tuesday evening

The singer appeared to be surrounded as she cut through the crowd at Chateau MarmontÂ
Describing her tone as the ‘ultimate vocal fry’ she added that her popstar lifestyle of ‘staying up late, drinking, smoking and partying’ when she was 21 did not ‘help’ her voice, but did not ’cause it.Â
‘I do have this blessing of a condition that I live with. My voice is super unique because of it.’
Cyrus said she is scared to get surgery on her polyp as she risks ‘not sounding like herself’ although it makes performing much harder.
Adding that live shows are ‘taxing’, she said any proposed tour would have to be ‘sustainable’ for her as she does not lip-sync.
