Love Is Blind star Mike Brockway has sparked huge backlash after ‘ignorant’ comments suggesting his co-star gave his son diabetes with a poor diet.
The real estate investor failed to find love on the Netflix show, but has still caused a stir thanks to his words about fellow bachelor Jordan Keltner in an early episode.
Originally, Mike was exploring a connection with Megan Walerius, with the pair enjoying several chats together in the famous pods.
Megan was also exploring an interest in Jordan Keltner at the time, and Mike drew fury from fans when he assumed his rival’s son had diabetes because of his diet.
While diet can increase risk on Type 2 diabetes, Jordan’s son has Type 1 diabetes, and the cause of this remains unclear.
During his conversation with Megan, Mike said he was happy they’d already discussed the role nutrition will play in the way they parent their future children.Â

He then noted that one of the other participants had diabetes, and said: ‘It’s just like so crazy to me that that can be the case.Â
‘I have a friend that was pre-diabetic and he just totally changed up his diet. And now he’s good.’
Appearing uncomfortable with the conversation, Megan said ‘wow’ before sharing that her father also had Type 1 diabetes.
‘And so maybe it’s not that easy for everyone, but I just think health and nutrition has to be top of mind,’ Mike added.
He then opted to change the subject, but it seemed Mike had already caused fury with his words, leading to a sea of reaction online.Â
Posts on X included: ‘Sorry, who is this guy who literally doesn’t understand diabetes? And does Megan agree with him, or is she just staying quiet cause she can’t be bothered to educate?’
‘Why isn’t anyone talking about how Mike is questions the nutrition of Jordon’s son because he has type 1 diabetes???? Does he know the difference of type 1 and 2?’
After the scenes were released on Netflix, Jordan took to Instagram to thank fans for sharing their support, alongside a snap of his son.
In a recent episode of the Netflix show, Mike made the comments in relation to fellow bachelor Jordan Keltner

Among those to blast Mike’s comments was Zack Goytowski, who appeared on Love Is Blind’s fourth season
Zack’s followers then echoed his sentiments in the comments, branding Mike’ words ‘ignorant and harmful’
He wrote: ‘Our hearts are feeling extra full this morning. All the kind words and personal stories about living with T1D mean the world to us.Â
‘Thank you for sharing. Just keep swimming, you got this.’
Among those to blast Mike’s comments was Zack Goytowski, who appeared on Love Is Blind’s fourth season, and married Bliss Poureetezadi after meeting on the show.
In a post on Instagram, Zack shared a snap of Mike during one of the Love Is Blind pods, along with text reading: ‘This scene was hard to watch. 1. Don’t talk about someone else’s kids on TV.
‘2. Don’t blame a parent for their child’s disability. 3. Learn the different between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.’
He captioned the post: ‘When I was in the sixth grade, my grandfather passed away from a diabetic coma. He was a type 1 diabetic.Â
‘He spent his entire life taking insulin shots. This was not something that was his fault. It wasn’t a product of unhealthy choices. It was simply the genetic cards he was dealt.
‘For all the parents out there who live with the constant fear of keeping their child alive each day, I’m sorry. I’m sorry that you have to face that kind of burden, and even more sorry that you have to face ignorance on top of it.
‘The idea that someone could look at you, after everything you do to protect your child, and blame you for something that was never in your control, feels cruel.
‘To all the parents out there fighting unseen battles for your children the world is better because you keep choosing love in an unfair universe.’
Zack’s fans echoed his sentiments in the comments, writing: ‘I truly felt like LIB should have included something informative at the end of this episode calling out the misinformation.Â
Megan eventually decided to pursue things with Jordan, and the pair are now engaged, with their journey set to continue later this season
‘Airing it without any kind of educational note was irresponsible on Netflix’s end as well;
‘This is why the MAHA movement is so dangerous. Reducing complex medical issues to ”just eat healthy and exercise and get outside and drink water” is so, so ignorant and harmful.
‘Thank you for speaking out about this. It was a very hard scene to watch;’
‘I’m glad you wrote this. Nobody is talking about this…and that’s disturbing;
‘As a Type 1 Diabetic, watching this scene was horrible! People need to educate themselves, especially before opening your mouth on TV.’

She briefly spoke about her connection with her former love interest in an interview with Swoon, saying: ‘We did have a strong connection in the pods, but I think I just started to see some of the same patterns that I saw with previous relationships.’Â
‘Obviously, I didn’t see him physically, but I think just even the way he spoke, and there was one evening where he respectfully walked out on me, and that was kind of a red flag.’
Earlier this month, it was also claimed that Mike has faced legal action and several complaints against his businesses.
His company Mile High Event Management LLC was sued by Colorado Hospitality Services, and the case was closed in February 2024, The Sun reports.
Another person has also accused him and his company, Peak Event Partners, of leaving them high and dry after they paid half of the cost of an events package for their wedding in 2023.
A month before their wedding, they received an automated email from them asking for the remainder owed, according to the complaint.
‘I wanted to make sure the details were finalised, so I emailed and called them repeatedly prior to making payment,’ they claimed.
‘I haven’t heard anything from them since. On 7/12/23 I went to their physical location and saw other customers’ complaints taped to their office door.
‘The office looked like it wasn’t staffed in at least several weeks. The vendor was apparently not going to deliver on the contract for my wedding in 10 days, and was even requesting final payment.’
Mike has never addressed these claims, but he did previously post on Instagram: ‘Still learning, still growing. I’m not perfect and I never will be, but my intentions have always come from a place of curiosity, care, and wanting to understand people better.
‘Sometimes when you’re moving fast and stepping into things that push you out of your comfort zone, you’re going to stumble. That’s part of learning, part of life, and part of growth.’Â
