Michael Fabricant wasted no time in opening up about his varied love life as he discussed his polyamorous lifestyle during Tuesday’s episode of Celebrity Big Brother.
The former MP identifies as bisexual and has a colourful romantic life to say the least, including a partner of 35 years, several ‘deep friendships’ and even an appearance on the celebrity edition of First Dates.
The politician, 74, has never married, but has had a long relationship with former Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street, having previously described him as his ‘life partner’.
Michael met Andy, who was the chief executive of John Lewis until 2016, at an Oxford University reunion when Street heckled him.
Despite being 13 years his junior, the pair have been together for 35 years now and in 2014 it was revealed they shared a £300,000 Snowdonia holiday home together.
Speaking to The Mail On Sunday at the time, Michael confirmed the couple didn’t live together full time as joked: ‘Frankly, if we lived together we would murder each other!’

He also insisted the pair, at the time, that they didn’t have an intimate relationship as he teased: ‘We can be friends without having him do things to my ****** or me to his, for God’s sake!’
‘I give Andy a hug occasionally and he stands there rigid with embarrassment.’
In an interview with GB News in 2021, he told Gloria De Piero: ‘There’s something special, but I’m not quite sure what it is. One of those indefinable little things.’
Asked how Andy would respond to the same question he teased: ‘He would cringe with embarrassment. He would take the microphone off and storm off the set.’
He also made sure to emphasise his active sex life as he candidly revealed: ‘I get it in one form or another quite regularly, I can tell you.
‘All my bits and pieces work… They haven’t fallen off through lack of use.’
Discussing his sexuality he explained his beliefs that most people aren’t exclusively gay or straight but are ‘on a form of the [bisexual] spectrum, though whether they do anything about it is another matter.’
Although he confirmed at the time that he had only had full sexual intercourse with women.

He also admitted he had ‘gone past the stage of wanting girlfriends and all the rest of it,’ as he described Andy as ‘someone I can rely on in life and he can rely on me.’
Prior to meeting Andy, Michael had relationships with women, including an American girl who came back to the UK with him after he met her studying in California.
But he has never regretted not marrying. He explained: ‘I have always run away from responsibilities like babies and things. It’s rather selfish actually.
‘In my 30s I was abroad a lot – and I enjoy the company of blokes. I’m not exclusively gay [though] I have certainly done things with a bloke.’
Speaking about his dalliances with women he confessed: ‘All the women I was with, they wanted to get married. They wanted babies. They wanted mortgages. They wanted commitment.
‘I didn’t want commitment. And then I met an American guy, and then subsequently I met Andy and we both lead, as I said just now, busy lives.
‘We’re there for each other. But it does mean I can get on with being, nowadays, an MP, and he can get on with being West Midlands mayor and we’re not constantly worrying about each other and all the rest of it.’
Back in 2017 Michael tipped his toe into the world of reality TV dating when he appeared on the celebrity version of First Dates in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.
The flamboyant politician revealed he was looking for a woman for companionship, or ‘a bit of sex maybe’.

During their dinner, Jan – who did not initially recognise him – commented on Fabricant’s sexuality and said that ‘the wig is a bit of a giveaway’, before she told him to ‘get rid of it’
Speaking ahead of his date with Jan, a fantasy novelist, Michael told cameras: ‘I think most people think I’m gay.
‘But when you’re a Member of Parliament, if I came out and said what I am – which is probably bisexual – people would say “he’s greedy, he can’t make up his mind!”‘
However things took an awkward turn when she made a joke about his blond hair, with Michael hitting back at her jibes that he was wearing a wig.

Michael who has previously described himself as ‘not exclusively gay’, appeared taken aback with her remark, and said: ‘I’m not going to make personal comments about you. I think that’s a rather rude thing to do in a dinner.’
Apologising, Jan said: ‘I did not mean to be rude.’
Michael said: ‘It’s me. My hair is me, if you like it – great. If you don’t – hard luck. I think making a personal remark seems rather aggressive and unpleasant, actually.’
Later during their date, Jan apologised to Mr Fabricant again, to which he replied: ‘Can we not discuss hair?
‘I won’t discuss your breasts if you promise not to discuss my hair.’
Michael opened up about his polyamorous set up on Tuesday’s episode of Celebrity Big Brother as he told Drag Race UK winner Danny Bear that he has a partner of 35 years as well as several ‘deep friendships’.
While he didn’t name Andy he hinted at their relationship as well as several ‘deep friendships’ with people he goes on solo holidays with.

Danny asked: ‘Would you call that an open relationship? Because I actually think a lot of gay people like that and a lot of straight people don’t understand it’
‘I’ve never been in the closet,’ Michael said, before JoJo Siwa asked if he was in a relationship and he replied: ‘It’s complicated. I have someone who I have known for 35 years who’s 13 years younger than me.
‘But I also have, and this is even more complicated, two friends and we all go on holiday separately with me or not.’
Danny asked: ‘Would you call that an open relationship? Because I actually think a lot of gay people like that and a lot of straight people don’t understand it.’
Michael appeared to agree with Danny as he nodded his head, before later adding: I would maybe say I’ve got very deep friendships. That would maybe be more tactful.’
