The Passion of the Christ filmmaker is also father to seven children from his 29-year marriage to Robyn Moore, which ended in 2009.
They are Hannah Mae Brobst, 43; Christian Gibson, 42; Edward Gibson, 42; Will Gibson, 38; Louie Gibson, 35; Milo Gibson, 33; and Thomas Gibson, 25.
Joining Gibson in the cast of Monster Summer includes Lorraine Bracco, Kevin James, Patrick Renna, Mason Thames, Nora Zehetner and Abby James Witherspoon, the lookalike niece of Reese Witherspoon.
According to a logline for the film, ‘When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.’
Gibson has worked on a number of smaller-scale projects in recent years, as he continues to rebuild his career more than a decade after a series of damaging scandals.
In a July 28, 2006 incident in Malibu, California, Gibson was arrested in connection with DUI, after which a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy said the actor went on an anti-Semitic tirade making statements such as, ‘F*****g Jews … the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,’ according to TMZ.
Gibson’s career careened further four years later in 2010, when a series of recordings surfaced in which he used multiple racial slurs and threatened violence against his former girlfriend Grigorieva.
In the wake of the 2010 scandal, Gibson lost a role in The Hangover 2 after the cast and crew protested his presence in the motion picture.

Gibson received a Best Director and Best Picture Oscar nominations for his 2017 World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge, which garnered six overall nominations in 2018.
In recent years, Gibson has been seen in movies such as Desperation Road, Confidential Informant, On the Line, Bandit, Hot Seat, Father Stu, Agent Game and Panama.
Earlier this month, he traveled to Europe to look at potential filming locations for a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, Variety reported last week.
He had been in Malta and Italy to look at multiple rural locales, Puglia Film Commission director Antonio Parente told the outlet.
Gibson’s publicist Alan Nierob confirmed that ‘they were scouting locations recently’ but there’s ‘not a lot to discuss at this early stage.’
