In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, Phoenix – whose father is Mel’s first husband Jimmy Gulzar – discussed overcoming her own body ‘insecurities’ and wanting to project an achievable image to her fans.
She said: ‘I feel like every girl goes through their own little problems while growing up and becoming a teenager. I’ve gone through being overweight or being insecure and all that stuff.
‘Doing shoots like this, or just seeing other people with their families and different body shapes and proportions, it gives you a different sense of view and it makes you a little bit more confident.
‘I felt blessed to be able to do that for other people and be in a shoot like that. It was awesome. But yeah, I’ve obviously been through my own struggles.’
During the interview, Phoenix revealed she’s moved out of home with her boyfriend AJ Anderson as she forges a career for herself in London.

While Mel B’s eldest daughter, is passionate about her patron role with domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid, she’s keen to pursue avenues in music, fashion and modelling in the Big Smoke.
Phoenix – who already has some exciting DJ gigs under her belt, as well as a second place medal in ITV’s The Games – certainly has big aspirations and doesn’t want to limit herself to just one talent.
She explained, ‘Well, It sounds cliché, but I just want to do all of it. I have a lot of desires, hobbies, and I don’t really want to stick to one career… my mum hasn’t. No one in my family has, and I feel like if you don’t need to, you don’t have to.
‘I wanted to be integrated more into music in my own way because it’s been my life for so long. So yeah, I picked up DJing and I enjoy it so much. It’s so fun. I might get into different ways of music in the future.
‘I mean, fashion’s always been a big thing for me too. So music and fashion kind of go a little bit hand in hand, which is nice.
‘Modelling is something that I’m enjoying more now, being in front of the camera. Presenting is something that I look forward to stepping into. Yeah, I’ve a lot of things.’
It’s well known that Mel is a strong advocate for female rights as a Women’s Aid Patron – and she even received an MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours.
The former X Factor judge began campaigning after splitting from her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte in 2017.
But Phoenix also throws herself into her charity work, where she mentors young people who have experienced domestic violence.
She clarified, ‘We both work in different areas. I work with younger kids, as opposed to older women, which I honestly think means more to me just because I went through what I went through as a little girl. It’s nice to be surrounded by that type of environment.’
While the influencer kept schtum on details surrounding her boyfriend – who isn’t in the public eye – her mum couldn’t resist gushing about the happy couple.
Little is known about AJ, the co-founder of NFT collection 3Landers, however Phoenix has been known to give her Instagram followers a glimpse of their relationship from time to time.
Mel told MailOnline how the pair lived in her Leeds home throughout the coronavirus lockdowns and that it was her who encouraged them to get their own place.
She said: ‘Phoenix has had the same boyfriend now for quite some time. We went over because he’s half Ghanian, half Scottish. So we went over and had like a whole New Year’s celebration over there a couple of years ago, which is really lovely.
‘They were living with me all through Covid or the whole lockdown thing. When we finally could go out and about, I was like, “It’s about time you went and pursued your career, your goals, your ambitions.”

‘So, yeah, she moved out with her boyfriend, lives in London and she still comes home a lot. I see her a lot because a lot of my work’s in London too, and it’s actually good. It’s actually created that nice separation where I’m not literally telling her, “Clean your room, do this, do that.” So it’s been quite nice for our relationship.
‘If Phoenix was going abroad or if she wasn’t just a phone call away or a train ride away, I would have felt that separation way worse. But you know, it wasn’t like I wasn’t going to see her.
‘I mean, when she left she came back the following weekend and the following weekend and the other weekend and she’s constantly around me and I’m constantly backwards and forwards to London.
‘So it wasn’t like she was up and gone. I mean, the house is definitely quieter, that’s for sure, but it was nice.’
