Coppola, 85, also shared the teaser on his official Instagram account and penned a short message in which he dedicated its release to his late wife, Eleanor.
The filmmaker and his wife had been married for just over sixty years when she passed away last month.
He wrote: ‘Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.’
Development on Megalopolis began several decades ago and production both commenced and was halted on numerous occasions.
Coppola returned to the project in 2019, when it was revealed that he had entered into talks with Shia LaBeouf, who ultimately joined the movie’s cast.
It was confirmed in August of 2022 that filming was set to commence later that year, and production began that fall.
Megalopolis will be centered on a superpowered architect who attempts to rebuild New York City into a modernist utopia.
The film will also feature the talents of an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza and Laurence Fishburne.
