Mayim Bialik is opening up about rebooting her hit 90s sitcom Blossom, though she revealed it will not be a sitcom.
The 47-year-old actress was just 15 when Blossom debuted on NBC in 1990 as a mid-season replacement, which would go on to run for five seasons.
She revealed back in April that the script from original Blossom creator Don Reo was complete, and now she is teasing in a Vanity Fair interview that the show won’t be a sitcom.
The actress was also promoting her mental health podcast Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, and revealed she finds inspiration in Joe Rogan’s podcast.
The interview comes a month after it was revealed that she will likely not return to host Jeopardy! in the future.

‘I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true,’ Bialik said of the Blossom reboot that is in the works.
‘All of the cast and the original creator and producers are on board, and we believe a reboot can and should exist once the strike ends,’ she added.
‘We’re hoping to reboot it not as a sitcom. We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters — a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic — to see them in a whole new way,’ she added.
The original series followed Bialik’s character Blossom Russo, the only girl in a family after matriarch Maddy left to pursue her career.
The series also starred Joey Lawrence and Michael Stoyanov as Blossom’s brothers Joey and Tony, Nick Wass as patriarch Nick Russo and Jenna Von Oy as Blossom’s best friend Six.
Back in April, Bialik revealed that the pilot script was written and the entire cast is coming back.
‘The show was supposed to be Catcher in the Rye about a girl, which was unusual. And we’d like to do a reboot that’s unusual. We’d like to do a single cam. All of the cast is on board,’ she said.
Still, it’s uncertain when the series will actually get off the ground, admitting it’s a ‘complicated’ situation with Disney, which holds the rights to the show.

‘My schedule has not been even open enough to think about it, but Don and I are finally ready to have more of a meaningful plan around it,’ she said.
‘And people ask me all the time about it. You know, we were an unusual show about a girl at that time. There were no network shows about girls. Everyone was like, ‘No one will watch that.’ And here we are,’ she said.
She also opened up about looking to Joe Rogan as inspiration for her own podcast Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, which launched in January 2021.
‘Joe Rogan’s had tremendous success, and while I don’t emulate everything he does, his style inspires me,’ Bialik said.
‘I’m just generally fascinated by people: Where did they come from? How did they become the way they are? There’s almost always something in someone’s family — drama, intensity, alcoholism, death — to be uncovered,’ she said.
