Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes are looking forward to their ‘third act’ as a couple when their children fly the nest.
The couple are proud parents to daughter Maggie, 19, and son Ralph, 17, while Matthew is also a step-dad to Keeley’s son Myles, 24, from her first marriage.
The Succession actor, 49, said he is looking forward to spending quality time with his Bodyguard star wife, 48, and heading off on numerous mini-breaks when they have more time to themselves.
He told CBS: ‘It’s like a third act. It’s exciting. We’re like, “OK, mini-breaks!” In the trenches when they’re little, it’s like, ‘This is it for ever’, but of course it’s not.
‘Then you realise, luckily, ours are really lovely, funny humans who are making you laugh and telling you off.’

The star, who appears in new movie Deadpool and Wolverine, playing Mr Paradox alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, went on to admit this is the first time his children have been interested in his work.
Matthew said: ‘We don’t always watch each other’s stuff and our children certainly don’t watch our things. That’s sort of galling – no interest. That keeps you humble.
‘But they will watch Deadpool for sure. They suddenly perked up when they heard I was doing that. They finally showed a modicum of interest. My daughter was like, ‘Will you meet Blake?’
Keeley and Matthew have been married since 2004 and Matthew is also step-father to Myles McCallum, Keeley’s son with first husband Spencer McCallum, a cartoonist.
The couple are lauded for having one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood, with the pair continually making time for each other despite their hectic work schedules.
Yet, Matthew has confessed it didn’t get off to the best of starts, previously describing the moment he fell in love with Keeley as ‘awful’.
Keeley was newly married to Spencer, and mother to baby son Myles, when she first met Matthew in 2002.
They met starring in BBC spy drama Spooks (known as MI-5 in the States) and were spotted kissing in June that year.

Yet Keeley insisted that nothing happened between them until her marriage ended, saying: ‘I’m sure nobody would believe we never had an affair but we really didn’t.’
Speaking about the fairytale moment they first said the L word, Keeley recalled: ‘Matthew just came straight out with it and said “I love you” in the rain one day. I thought, “Oh dear, here we go.”’
Her divorce from Spencer was finalised in 2004 and in November of that year she wed Matthew. They welcomed their first child, daughter Maggie, the following month.
