Appendicitis is when the appendix – a small, finger-shaped pouch on the large intestine – becomes inflamed.

It can cause severe stomach pain that travels to the lower right-hand side, and needs to be treated swiftly in case the appendix bursts, which the NHS warns can prove life-threatening.

The most common form of treatment is surgery, called an appendectomy, to take out the appendix straight away.

Martin’s post quickly received an outpouring of support from fans, as well his fellow DJs, with a slew of the world’s biggest music producers sharing well-wishes.

WHAT IS APPENDICITIS?

Appendicitis is a swelling of the appendix, a two to four-inch-long organ connected to the large intestine.

It can cause severe pain and must be treated swiftly in case the appendix bursts, which can be life-threatening.

The causes of appendicitis aren’t clear but it is thought to be triggered by something blocking the entrance to the organ, which is prone to infection.

Symptoms include pain in the stomach which later travels to your lower right-hand-side and becomes severe.

Pressing on this area, coughing, or walking can all make the pain worse, and other symptoms can be nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea and a fever.

The most common form of treatment is an appendectomy, where the appendix is surgically removed straight away.

Despite decades of research, scientists are still puzzled about what the appendix actually does, as it appears to serve no vital function in the human body.

While The Chainsmokers gushed: ‘Love you Marty take care of yourself get well soon❤️❤️❤️’ followed by Armin van Buuren writing: ‘Get well soon man’.

Don Diablo added: ‘You only have one body. Take care and get well brother ❤️’ and Marshmello said: ‘Get well soon bro!!’ with fellow Dutchman Afrojack writing: ‘beterschapppp❤️’ which translates to ‘get well soon’ in English.

Martin’s hospital dash comes just three months after he returned to London for his first UK show in seven years, at Gunnersbury Park in August.

He shot to fame when he released his debut single, Animals, in 2013 when he was just 17-years-old – with the hit dance track going straight to number one on UK’s Official Singles Chart.

He’s gone on to become one of the biggest names in the EDM scene, headlinging music festivals such as Tomorrowland, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival and Creamfields.

While he has also scored mainstream success with his collaborations with the likes of Dua Lipa, Khalid, and Bono and The Edge.

However, Martin previously admitted his songs ‘annoy’ him when he first starts working on them, and he can create 50 versions of a track before he’s happy with it.

He told The Daily Telegraph in 2019: ‘I am a detail freak. I over think everything. I just want to explore all options and then cherry pick and see what is best.’

Martin explained he’ll keep playing a new song to himself wherever he is and change the ‘first thing that annoys me’.

‘I will keep doing that until the song doesn’t annoy me anymore and I am super happy,’ the Dutch musician said.
