Married at First Sight Stars Secretly Wed After Fan-Slammed Prank Proposal

Ridge Barredo stunned fans in January when he got down on one knee for girlfriend Jade Pywell as he teased some huge relationship news.

But the Married At First Sight star, 29, subverted expectations at the last second when he revealed he was only playing a ‘cruel’ prank, and not actually proposing.

In two social media posts made on Thursday, Jade, 28, has teased fans with a subtle hint as to her martial status. 

In a screenshot of a text exchange with her partner, the mum-of-one distinctly underlined the word ‘Husband’, which she has set in her phone for Ridge’s contact. 

Then, in a comedic video about the State of Origin game last night – Jade filmed Ridge saying: ‘But as you all know, State of Origin is full of bogans, losers, and drunk a**holes. I’d much rather prioritise my misso [sic] who’s perfect, amazing, and doesn’t threaten me with my life.’

Misso, of course, is an Australian slang used to describe a man’s wife.    

In the reflection of a full-length mirror in the video, Jade can be seen nodding faux seriously, while holding a kitchen knife in one hand. 

Then, in the following post to her Stories she wrote: ‘He did in fact watch sports all night and then sat on his phone for the rest of the night.’ 

The text exchange shows messages from Ridge, sent on Wednesday afternoon. which read: ‘I’ll miss you every moment until you come home xx. Hopefully you leave your attitude at the gym,’ followed by a single smiley-face emoji. 

‘Probably not,’ Jade replied jokingly with two smiley faces. 

Daily Mail Australia has approached the couple for comment.  

Ridge and Jade were matched up on season 11 of Married at First Sight and were the only pairing to take a lasting relationship into the real world, after Sydney-based psychiatric nurse Ridge committed to moving states.

However, the faux proposal skit posted earlier this year went down like a lead balloon with Ridge’s 118,000 followers.  

He could be seen in an Instagram video enjoying some time in the sun on the back of a boat with Jade, when the jokester pretended to pop the question.

His elaborate prank began when he encouraged Jade to take a photo with him next to the edge of the boat.

The brunette bombshell was already drenched with water as she posed with him while wearing a wet-suit pulled down to her waist to expose her bikini top.

Ridge then grasped her left hand in his and got down on one knee, leaving Jade to stare down at him in shock and glee as she believed he was proposing. 

However, as the trickster looked up at her and pulled her in close, he suddenly shoved her into the water next to them.

Jade appeared to take the joke in good fun as she shared the video to her own Instagram Stories making light of the prank.

‘Sheesh. Harder than I thought trying to get a ring,’ she captioned the clip alongside an emoji with a single tear.

It comes after Jade and her MAFS hubby opened up about their future together, and it seems that baby plans are on the horizon.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Mail Australia last August, the couple, who met and fell in love on MAFS 2024, revealed plans to start a family.

When asked about their sex life, Ridge was quick to deflect.

‘You can go…’ he started, before cheekily offloading the question. ‘Yeah, deece,’ he jokingly added.

‘She’s not pregnant yet, though, which is a bit annoying,’ he quipped with a laugh.

‘And she’s got a ring on her finger and everything. But apparently not. It has to be a different one,’ he added, hinting at Jade’s desire for a more official engagement before they start trying for a baby.

‘The show doesn’t count,’ Jade said. ‘I’d like a proper engagement, instead of me just being handed to him.’
