Married At First Sight Star Lacey Martin reveals she has experienced ‘dark thoughts’ since split from Nathan Campbell

Married At First Sight star Lacey Martin has candidly revealed she has experienced ‘dark thoughts’ since her split from co-star Nathan Campbell.

Despite ending the experiment with a bright future ahead last year, the couple split just weeks later, after Nathan claimed Lacey said they were ‘better off as friends.’

Nathan also accused Lacey of suggesting they keep up the ruse of their relationship to ‘get magazine deals,’ while she hit back that he blocked her on social media during the show’s explosive reunion last month.

Opening up on Furbar Radio’s Acess All Areas show on Thursday, Lacey admitted: ‘I didn’t want to be here the other day last week, I didn’t come out of my pyjamas for four days, I had bad dark thoughts.

‘And we all have our battles, but overall, I am a positive girl. And I didn’t get out my pyjamas for four days. I was crying, and it was just me, my mum and my twin sister Paige in the house.

‘And I was like, Mum, there’s no way out. And for me, I feel like Nathan should have put a statement out.’

She continued: ‘I suffer with depression. I’m pretty open about that, but I’ve never had dark thoughts like that where I’m drowning.

‘I just want it to be all over. I just want to be asleep. And, it was a hard place. And there was no one to run to, and even if you put out a statement, people weren’t really reading it ‘

Lacey also claimed that she has received online hate from her best friend on the show, Holly Ditchfield: ‘One of my best friends, Holly, she knew the ins and outs of that relationship.

‘She was there every step of the way of the breakup, me crying, me ringing her, and it wasn’t to do with the texts’ so when she was on live saying ‘Yeah, I’m on Nathan’s side’, I called her out.

‘I said, ‘Hold on a minute. I thought she was my best mate’. She was there through the breakup. Okay, it’s a TV show, but my feelings were real for Nathan.’

Also in the episode, Lacey slamed the edit of Married at First Sight as she exclaimed: ‘It wasn’t a true reflection of what actually happened. So much was cut out between me and Nathan’s conversation of why we actually did split up.

‘It was nothing to do with this whole showmance thing, we spoke about that a few months after when we were friends, and he agreed, but the producers cut everything out.’

MailOnline has contacted representatices for Holly and Channel 4 for comment.

It comes after Lacey broke her silence after ex Nathan accused her of plotting a ‘showmance’ during the reunion show.

While Nathan attempted to confront Lacey about her behaviour, she insisted she didn’t want to go ‘tit for tat,’ instead reading a letter looking back at their relationship, before clashing with him yet again at the dinner table.

In another awkward moment, Lacey dramatically declared she was ‘leaving’ as both Nathan and pal Kieran Chapman continued to press her on the ‘showmance’ claims.

However, many of the guests hesitated before going after her, with Ella Morgan seen asking: ‘Is anyone going to go after her?’ before several girls convinced her to return.

Taking to Instagram Stories to share a post, which she has since deleted, Lacey claimed that much of Nathan’s true colours were ‘edited out,’ saying that he ‘refused to wish her luck for Race For Life.’

She wrote: ‘Thank you to every single person who has messaged me! I’m overwhelmed with how many people can relate.

‘I love you all and forever grateful.

‘So sooooo much was edited out! What about Nathan not withing me good luck for race for life? As my Mum had cancer.

‘What about Nathan agreeing saying he wanted to do a boy band and modelling and deals???

‘I stuck up for myself. But everything has been edited out! Due to Nathan’s mental health! What about mine?

‘Sending everyone love sending me beautiful messages from start to finish, be mindful.’

The 24-year-old engineer from Somerset and Hertfordshire-based office manager, 27 were lucky enough to have a union on the show that was relatively plain sailing compared to some of their co-stars.

At the explosive dinner party during the reunion, Nathan admitted to the boys that Lacey told him they should continue their romance for fame and ‘magazine deals’.

Teary-eyed he said: ‘I was so gutted when it ended, I thought our marriage was going to last forever.’

Telling her side of the story however, Lacey said: ‘People are going to be shocked that it was Nathan that blocked me, I just feel that he gave up.

‘Him just blocking me like I’m nothing hurt me, I just tried so hard.’

Chatting to his co-star Kieran, Nathan went on to explain: ‘After the experiment she was completely different.

‘I was going to see her every weekend, she never came to see me once in the whole relationship, never. She said ‘I think it’s best we be friends’, she ripped my heart out.’

‘She just decided it was better to be mates, it was a bit one-sided. It goes into something that’s not genuine.’

He then added: ‘Shortly after she messaged me and said after a year you get magazine deals and things like that, showmance.

‘She sent me a text message saying the relationship she wanted would be a pretend one so she could get more opportunity from it and make more money but I didn’t want to do it.

‘It’s a bit embarrassing, I don’t really want to talk about it to be honest.’ His pals were shocked as he shared the news with them.

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?

While it is normal to feel down from time to time, people with depression may feel persistently unhappy for weeks or months on end.

Depression can affect anyone at any age and is fairly common –  approximately one in ten people are likely to experience it at some point in their life.

Depression is a genuine health condition which people cannot just ignore or ‘snap out of it’.

Symptoms and effects vary, but can include constantly feeling upset or hopeless, or losing interest in things you used to enjoy.

It can also cause physical symptoms such as problems sleeping, tiredness, having a low appetite or sex drive, and even feeling physical pain.

In extreme cases it can lead to suicidal thoughts.

Traumatic events can trigger it, and people with a family history may be more at risk.

It is important to see a doctor if you think you or someone you know has depression, as it can be managed with lifestyle changes, therapy or medication.
