Mariah Carey Responds Gracefully to Gayle King’s Nick Cannon Question

Mariah Carey was put in a tough spot when asked about ex-husband Nick Cannon this week.

The 56-year-old singer was a guest on CBS Mornings, where she was interviewed by host Gayle King to promote her new album Here For It All.

During the sit-down chat, King inquired about her co-parenting relationship with Cannon, 44. The exes were married from 2008-2016 and share 14-year-old fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe.

And Cannon recently pointed to their divorce as the trigger of ‘trauma’ that led to him fathering 10 more children after the split.

‘Hmm. I kind of feel like it’s best if I don’t talk about him because he can just be in his own world. No offense to him,’ Carey said on the morning show.

Her fans are now praising her for taking the high road in her response.

Earlier this month Cannon stopped by The Breakfast Club and opened up about how his divorce from Carey influenced him to have 10 kids with five women.

He revealed that becoming a dad to so many kids stemmed from unresolved pain and a lack of self-reflection following the end of his marriage.

The media personality explained, ‘I just didn’t do the work. So then I looked up, 12 kids later, and I’m like, “Wow, I could have [done] things differently.”‘

‘But I stand firm on all my decisions because I love all my kids. I love my family infrastructure,’ he added.

Someone else agreed on Wednesday that Carey demonstrated ‘a different level of class’ in her CBS Mornings interview ‘because that is still her kids’ father.’

Another supporter added, ‘I loved her answer. I don’t think she is happy with Nick right now because he made it seem like he had a basketball team of children in response to their divorce.

The fan continued, ‘But Mariah doesn’t want to badmouth him because he’s still Rocky and Roe’s dad.

When asked if his parenting decisions were tied to trauma, Cannon replied: ‘Yeah, I’m learning that now.

‘It wasn’t like I was acting out. It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process because I could do it, because I had the money, because I had the access to whoever and however I wanted to move.’

Looking back, Cannon admitted he wasn’t ‘mature’ enough to plan more intentionally at the time.

‘Obviously, life happens as well, so it wasn’t like, “Oh, I’m going to go have 12 kids,”‘ he said. ‘It was more about like, “Yo, I’m gonna just live life and have fun and whatever happens, happens. I can handle it.”‘

Now in therapy, the actor says he’s taken time to reflect and work on himself.

‘Being almost 45 now, I could sit back and like, yeah, if I would have thought the process through a little bit more and [taken] time to actually do the inner work, things might have been a little different in certain scenarios,’ the actor admitted.
