Mariah Carey Addresses Eminem Feud Claims Over 8 Mile Role

Mariah Carey is shrugging off rumors her feud with Eminem all started after he offered her the role of his mother in the 2002 movie 8 Mile.

Over the summer, producer Damion Young claimed Eminem, 52 – who is just four years younger than Carey – activated the singer’s insecurities ‘big time’ after he approached her with the part.

However, Carey, 56, is now acknowledging the story’s accuracy – not that she’s particularly fussed by how it all went down.

‘From what I heard, there is truth to that, but I don’t think that he actually – well, who knows who approached who?’ she told Andy Cohen, 57, on Watch What Happens Live.

‘Did that ignite the beef?’ Andy asked.

‘No, I mean, maybe, it depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that, fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric,’ she said.

Kim Basinger, who is 15 years old than Carey, ended up playing the part of Eminem’s mother in the film, a semi-autobiographical movie about the rapper’s rise to fame.

He starred in the film as Jimmy Smith Jr, a car factory worker struggling to gain respect on the underground rap circuit.

The film won a number of awards, most notably Best Original Song for Lose Yourself at the Oscars in 2003.

In June, producer Damion Young claimed he introduced Carey and Eminem after the rapper asked to speak with her about a role in his film.

‘So I go to Mariah, and I’m like, “Look, Eminem wants to meet you,” and she’s like, “No,”‘ she said. ‘Like, “I’m not getting up in that.” And I said, “Well, there’s this movie.” She goes, “What’s his number?”‘ he recalled on the TFU Podcast.

After he connected Carey and Eminem on a three way call, Young claimed Eminem immediately asked the singer, ‘”I want you to play my mother”… so her insecurities kicked in big time.’

The origins of the feud stem back to the early 2000s, over a disputed romance.

While the Not Afraid hitmaker has stated the pair had dated for six months, the songstress has denied that such a romance had existed.

During an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2002, he commented on the reported relationship and stated, ‘There’s truth to that.’

‘But on the whole personal level, I’m not really feeling it. I just don’t like her as a person,’ Eminem added.

The Grammy-winning rapper and the songstress have in the past exchanged barbs through their work, as Eminem cited Carey in two tracks on his 2002 album The Eminem Show, Superman and When The Music Stops.

For a retort, Carey claimed she was never involved with The Real Slim Shady artist and dissed him on her 2002 song Clown.

The vitriolic exchange kicked up seven years later when Eminem dissed both Carey and her former husband Nick Cannon on his song Bagpipes From Bagdad, and she struck back with her song Obsessed, to which he released a track called The Warning, referring to the One Sweet Day singer as a s*** b***h c***.’

He also referred to Carey in lyrics in the 2019 Fat Joe track Lord Above.

‘I know me and Mariah didn’t end on a high note/But that other dude’s whipped, that p***& got him neutered/Tried to tell him this chick’s a nut job before he got his jewels clipped/Almost got my caboose kicked, fool, quit, you not gon’ do s***/I let her chop my b***s off, too ‘fore I lost to you, Nick.’
