Maria Thattil has revealed the supportive reaction she received from her girlfriend Moana Hope after filming sex scenes for Channel 10 soap Neighbours.
In a recent piece for Stellar, the 31-year-old delved into the reality behind the steamy scenes that captivate viewers on the show.
Maria has recently taken on the role of Amira Devkar on the long-running Channel 10 soap, engaging in an on-screen romance with Nicolette Stone, portrayed by Hannah Monson.
While the chemistry on-screen appeared uninhibited and electric, Maria shed light on the technical and safe environment that made it all possible.
‘To some, sitting with your partner to watch yourself make out with another might be uncomfortable. To me, it’s just part of a job – and I scored a high-five from my girlfriend afterwards,’ Maria shared.
Her girlfriend Moana’s reaction underscores the professional nature of these scenes, which are meticulously choreographed to ensure comfort and safety.
Key to this process is the role of an intimacy coordinator (IC), a relatively new position in the industry.
Maria credited Bayley Turner of Create Consent for the smooth execution of these intimate moments.

Despite the inherent awkwardness that might accompany simulated intimacy, Maria expressed gratitude for the Neighbours production team and Turner.
Their efforts created a respectful atmosphere that allowed for professional and authentic performances.
‘My first intimate scene wasn’t as graphic as one could be, but I’m nonetheless grateful to Bayley and the Neighbours production team for fostering a safe environment, so the scene could be achieved professionally and respectfully,’ she said.

In a light-hearted conclusion, Maria revealed the camaraderie that developed on set, leading to celebratory high-fives after filming the scenes.
‘It’s not every day your job requires orgasmic simulations, but when it’s achieved so safely, a high five is in order,’ she quipped.
Though Moana and Maria often appear publicly together, they rarely make comments about their budding romance.
In March, Maria said that while she is open about her romance with Moana, there are some things she prefers to keep private to protect her growing relationship.

Maria has gushed that her relationship with Moana is different to previous romances and described her as the ‘love of her life’
‘Something I’ve learnt is the importance of protecting certain parts of your life and keeping something sacred,’ she told Stellar Magazine.
‘In this digital world that we live in, strangers do feel entitled to you; sometimes they can have parasocial relationships where they feel entitled to ask me things.
‘I always think to myself, these people would never walk up to you in the street and just, point-blank, to your face, ask you this stuff. And I feel like I don’t want that undue pressure.’
The couple have been dating for several months and have already moved in together as they continue to go from strength-to-strength.
Things have been getting serious between them for a while, and Moana hinted in November that she will soon propose to Maria.

Posting a series of images to Instagram of the pair glammed up for their night out at the Marie Claire Women of the Year Awards, the couple seemed smitten.
In one photo, Moana even appeared to be about to get down on bended knee and pop the question.
In the comments section, fans noticed the romantic air of the images, with one person asking: ‘How do I get tickets to the wedding?’
Moana was quick to reply to the curious follower, ‘Watch this space!’, along with a laughing emoji.
