Margot Robbie has poured cold water on speculation she could one day step into Kylie Minogue’s shoes for a big-screen biopic.
The Gold Coast-raised actress, 35, was tipped by the pop superstar herself as the perfect choice to portray her, if a film version of her life were ever made.
Kylie, 57, recently inked a multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix for a warts-and-all documentary, fuelling whispers the streaming giant might eventually push for a full-length movie about her rise to fame.
But when the rumour was put to Robbie during a BBC Radio 2 appearance, the Barbie star looked stunned.
‘She did not?! Why has nobody ever told me this before?!’ Robbie exclaimed when informed that Minogue had publicly endorsed her. ‘That is wild information.’
While clearly flattered, Robbie quickly ruled herself out.

‘I am beyond honoured. Of course I could not. I can’t sing like Kylie,’ she admitted, adding that she dislikes it when actors take on musical roles without the vocal chops.
The Oscar-nominated actress went on to reveal her very first meeting with Kylie was far less Hollywood and far more Australian.
According to Robbie, the pair bonded over cocktails at LA’s famed Chateau Marmont after Minogue’s team reached out.
‘I thought it was going to be about work or a charity thing,’ Robbie recalled.
‘But she just said, “You’re an Aussie, I’m an Aussie, we should hang out.” And then we just got drunk together.’Â
Margot has made a big return to screens after taking a short break from acting following her 2023 blockbuster success, Barbie, which saw her decked out in stunning doll-like outfits inspired by the toy throughout the summer of that year.Â
She has spent the last several months enjoying the glow of motherhood with her husband, Tom Ackerley, after the pair welcomed their first son together in October.
Now she is set to once again take her place as the lead role in the upcoming film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside 49-year-old Irish actor Colin Farrell.Â

The movie tells the story of Sarah (Margot) and David (Colin), who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and are soon swept up in an otherworldly adventure to relive their past milestone moments together.
They discover a strange door in the woods that is somehow a portal to their pasts, as they relive their core memories together, like David’s unrequited love and Sarah’s mother dying.
The film also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Billy Magnussen and Jodie Turner-Smith.
It will be released in Australian cinemas on September 18.
