Selena Gomez urged her fans to ‘stay in line’ as she shared a candid video on Election Day.
The actress, 32, took to her Instagram and her X account on Tuesday with a makeup-free clip of herself encouraging voters to remain in place despite long wait times.
‘I hear that there are really, really long lines today, and I just wanted to make this video really quick to say please stay in the line,’ Gomez — who opted to vote early via mail-in ballot — said.
‘Long lines are really frustrating and annoying and I know they’re not fun, but we need your voice and vote for your future.’
She added, ‘And if you are in line before the polls close, stay in line. Even after closing, polls will stay open until everyone in that line has voted.’

She wrapped up her statement telling her social media followers: ‘If you are in line before the polls close, you have a legal right to vote. So please vote.’
Selena appeared to have made the video spur-of-the-moment, going barefaced with her dark tresses slicked back and wearing a white tank top.
A number of her fans thanked her for encouraging to vote without pushing either of the candidates.
‘At least she didn’t direct followers to a specific candidate. Respect,’ one wrote.
‘Thank you for being one of the few celebrities that encourage voting without pushing a specific political candidate,’ another added.
‘Love the in general vid even tho you’re a dem, respect.’
A few days earlier Gomez took to social media to encourage her loyal American fanbase to vote, yet the actress only sparked questions and confusion for her foreign fans.
Days ahead of a polarizing US Presidential election, the Rare Beauty founder turned to TikTok to share a clip of her turning her mail-in ballot into a nearby drop ballot box.

While on her way to the highly-anticipated Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere, The Only Murders in the Building actress can be seen hopping out of a car in a sparkling red dress and heels and running over to a drop box along a sidewalk.
Yet, the 26-second clip – which has since received 380 thousand views – has left some of her fans from outside the US confused by the voting system.
One user took to ‘X’, formerly Twitter sharing: ‘Wait. Is this how Americans vote? By dropping their ballot into some box on the street?’
Another commented: ‘How long have you been voting like this??? Did you not question this method till now? Also, it’s unsupervised? Who in the burning Hell thought this was a good idea?’
‘This is wild to me because in Australia you have to show up to a polling center set up in a primary school, get your name marked off a book and then they give you a ballot paper which you fill out in a booth,’ another responded.
The ‘drop boxes’ are placed around cities across the country to ‘provide a secure and convenient means for voters to return their mail ballot,’ the US Election Assistance Commission explains.
‘A drop box is a secure, locked structure operated by election officials where voters may deliver their ballots from the time they receive them in the mail up to the time polls close on Election Day.’
Ballot drop boxes may be staffed or may not have anyone overseeing them and some are permanent while others are temporary.

After the October 27 Madison Square Garden event, Gomez, who has family of Mexican descent, said she ‘strongly disagreed with any comments that were made,’ after Hinchcliffe compared Puerto Rico to a ‘floating island of garbage.’
‘I definitely want to stand by my people,’ she added.
