A major TV network is in turmoil as speculation mounts that one of its star performers is facing the axe.

Reports have surfaced that the future of a Melbourne-based weather presenter is under a cloud.

According to the rumour the on-air talent is a much admired employee with the station.

The ‘high profile’ talent, who is a woman, is set to be replaced by a ‘fresher face’ reported the Herald Sun on Saturday.

In a dramatic twist, the publication claims that staff at the station know about the move.

But the presenter who set to get the chop has yet to be told they are out of a job.

Neither the presenter nor the television station where the star is facing the chop have been named.  

It comes amid a slew of changes across multiple networks, including Channel Seven, in recent months. 

In the latest news, former ABC star Karina Cavarlho is set to share the Channel Seven Melbourne weekend news desk with Mike Amor from Saturday.

The 44-year-old news veteran comes to the high profile gig after filling in for Peter Mitchell on the weekday news over the summer.

Karina made headlines in 2023 when she made a dramatic exit from the ABC after working at the national broadcaster for a whopping 17 years.

‘You know you love your job when you have to work when everyone else is on holidays and you don’t mind it,’ she joked to the Herald Sun after Seven announced her new role on Friday.

The Sri Lankan-born beauty, who started at Seven in July, has been in Mitchell’s chair on weekdays for the last five weeks.

‘The whole team that was on over summer was really fun,’ she gushed in her interview with the publication.

Elsewhere in the chat, Karina said enjoyed being back in Melbourne after being based there while she was working at ABC News Breakfast.

‘I probably shouldn’t mention the ABC but it’s been so funny talking to some of my friends from there, because you don’t actually realise that there’s life after the ABC,’ she joked.

She also shared that she has been enjoying the jaunts to prized sporting events like the Test cricket and the Australian Open over the summer holiday period.

‘Even on Boxing Day I read the 6pm news but during the day I popped into the cricket and it’s just having the exposure to all of those different experiences,’ she said.

Karina revealed in December 2023 that she had quit her job as the ABC News channel presenter after 17 years with the broadcaster.

She expressed her bittersweet sentiments about leaving the ABC at the time.

‘The ABC will always have a special place in my heart’ Karina said in her parting statement.

‘I’ve been able to meet and work with so many talented people,’ she told The Australian ahead of her final bulletin’ she continued.

‘Now is the right time to venture into the next phase of my career and I’m excited to see what’s around the corner.

‘I wish my colleagues at the ABC nothing but the best.’

Karina’s impressive career includes anchoring the ABC news program in Brisbane for five years. She also co-hosted ABC News Breakfast in Melbourne.
