Maggie Gyllenhaal Shares Secret to 20-Year Marriage with Peter Sarsgaard

Maggie Gyllenhaal opened up about the secret behind her two decade-long marriage to fellow actor and husband Peter Sarsgaard.

The Donnie Darko star, 47, married the Orphan star, 54, in 2009 after meeting eight years earlier.

The couple eventually co-starred in an unreleased film produced by Steven Soderbergh, In God’s Hands, and welcomed two beautiful daughters Ramona, 19, and Gloria, 13.

Candidly discussing what keeps the Hollywood pair still so fond of each other, Maggie said she feels lucky to live with an artist she truly respects.

‘I love talking to him about what he’s thinking about and what he’s up against,’ she told the Sunday Times in a recent interview.

‘We’ve been together a long time and I can feel when he has had enough of talking to me about whatever I’m talking about that day.

‘I think we can feel each other out, like don’t talk about work right now, he doesn’t care, he just wants to have dinner,’ she unveiled.

Earlier in December, Flightplan legend Peter also opened up about his long marriage to Maggie while chatting to PEOPLE

‘We take turns in terms of our work. I think that’s one of the things that you just sort of have to do is let someone have their dance and then you take your dance.

‘There is great value in that,’ he told the publication.

The White House Down favourite has currently all hands on deck as she’s been busy preparing her second directorial project, The Bride!, set to hit theatres in 2026.

The movie will be her punk rock take on Frankenstein’s monster, as she serves as a producer and director for the project.

Christian Bale, 51, and Jessie Buckley star as Frankenstein’s monster and the bride of Frankenstein, while it will also see Peter joining the A-list cast.

Jessie, 35, previously worked with Maggie on The Lost Daughter, which earned her an Oscar nomination.

Moreover, Penélope Cruz, 50, Annette Bening, 66, also play in the upcoming sci-fi thriller.

‘Here comes the mother f*****g bride,’ is The Bride’s newly released tagline, Variety reported.

According to the outlet, the movie’s first look opens with the bride falling down a flight of stairs and waking up on an operating table after breaking multiple bones.

Though she gets fixed up, she’s now only good enough to be the monster’s lover.

A voice in the trailer says: ‘It wasn’t any accident, they did it on purpose.’

The Bride is set for release in the UK on March 6, 2026, and opens in theatres in the US on September 26.
