MAFS UK star Matt Pilmoor has shared a heartbreaking post about his mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s as he opened up about the ‘hardest year of my life’.
Bodybuilder Matt, who appeared on the E4 show in 2023, spoke about his mum’s diagnosis in a post on Instagram on Thursday.Â
Matt revealed last month that his mum had been diagnosed with the disease in August and that it was ‘progressing quickly’.
In an update on Thursday, Matt shared two pictures of him and his mother as he spoke about how he has ‘watched my mum go through something truly awful’.
He opened up about how he misses coffee dates and phone calls with his mother in the sweet tribute, as he said he will ‘forever treasure’ those moments. Â
He wrote: ‘In the space of 12 months I have watched my mum go through something truly awful. It’s been the hardest year of my life specially been an only child trying to look after not only my mum but my dad too.

‘It’s broken me in more ways than one, parents that we look up to as our hero’s who look after us our whole lives then so quickly the roles reverse. It’s like I have lost my mum but I haven’t it’s a very weird time right now.
‘Each day never gets easier, but I’m finding ways of coping and making it the new normal.’
Matt added: ‘Last week I started my first lot of media talking about my story and journey with looking after my parents, it’s very emotional, raw but I want to tell my story to help raise awareness of this horrible disease and to help others.
‘Your support over the years has been genuinely incredible and it makes me feel not alone through it, so many touching story’s I have read and the messages I’m sent honestly mean the world. This is why I want to give back and help as many people possible.
‘I miss the simple things in life which I took for granted, the phone calls, the texts, the coffee dates.Â
‘I will forever treasure them moments and if your in a similar position reach out and I’ll help with advice the best I can.’
Matt revealed his mother’s diagnosis on his Instagram four weeks earlier, in a heartbreaking post. Â
He said at the time: ‘A couple of weeks ago, I was told that my mum has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The doctor explained that it’s progressing quite quickly, but she is now on the right medication to hopefully slow things down as much as possible and keep it under control.Â

‘Over the past few months, I’ve been having online meetings and calls with @alzheimersresearchuk, and together we’ll be working to raise awareness and fight this disease—for those like me who have loved ones going through it.
‘As a team, we’ve got a lot planned that will be announced soon, including a personal challenge I’ll be taking on in support of this devastating illness. I’ll also be stepping into the media to share my story as an only child, because I believe it can make a real impact on others in similar situations.
‘This will be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I’m determined to tell this raw, honest story in the hope it can help others.Â

And as both the 2023 and 2024 cast came together for a special reunion episode on Monday evening, Matt, 30, surprised Shona, 32, with a special promise ring.Â

She gushed: ‘I said yes!!! I’m semi engaged to @mattpilmoor hehe love my promise ring such a cute way to end our journey on MAFS.Â
