Married At First Sight UK star Matt Jameson has opened up about his ‘heartbreaking’ split from co-star Daniel McKee.
Matt and Daniel became the E4 reality show’s first ever gay couple in 2021 and were together for two years before they announced their split in December.
Matt has now revealed the truth behind the split, saying he didn’t want to break up and felt like he had ‘let people down’.
Speaking to The Mirror, he confessed: ‘It is a shame that things didn’t work out for the long term, but that pressure and feeling like you’re letting the community and the fans and everybody that supports you down.
‘And that’s why it was so difficult to put that [break-up] announcement out back in December last year.

Split! Matt and Daniel were together for two years before their break-up in December
‘I was upset anyway because I was heartbroken. I was in love with Dan and I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t want us to separate but circumstances were that that needed to happen, so having that added pressure was quite intense, and even more so upsetting.’
In December the Married At First Sight stars announced they had decided to split after spending two years together.
Dan and Matt married on the show and stayed together for two years after filming, shared the sad news with their fans on Instagram.
The former couple confirmed that they were going their separate ways because they felt that they were ‘better off as friends’.
Sharing the news to Instagram, Dan said: ‘Hey guys! As you all know, we have been on an incredible adventure together the last two years and we have given ourselves every opportunity to make things work as a couple, but over the last few months we have realised that we are actually better as friends.’
He continued with: ‘Break-ups are never easy, even when amicable, but we can’t thank you enough for your support and kindness following our journey together.’
However, even though the couple have split, Dan quickly reassured fans that there is no bad blood between him and Matt.
‘There’s nothing but love and good energy between us, and we feel very lucky to have found each other in our lives. Just sadly not as a couple! And although we are parting ways, we will always continue to support one another.’

Parted ways: Dan, 28, and Matt, 40, who married on the show and stayed together for two years after filming, shared the sad news with their fans on Instagram

Dan and Matt met on the show in 2021, and the couple got paired up by show experts Mel Schilling, Paul C Brunson, and Charlene Douglas.
The split, however, is a shock to fans and people worldwide, as the couple previously opened up to OK! about their plans to have a real wedding.
Just a few months before the split, Matt told OK! ‘We were at one of Dan’s friend’s weddings recently and we got chatting with a wedding planner. It’s definitely something we’re thinking about.’
‘I would love it and I know Dan would as well. But we’re in no rush, we’re embracing what we have together right now. We’ve gone through this immensely intense experience.’
The split came after Dan and Matt admitted last year that it was an ‘amazing experience to be representing the LGBTQ+ community on a dating show with this sort of impact.’
‘We went in not knowing what to expect from the process, other than we’d be marrying a stranger. The experts truly worked their magic. We fell in love thanks to the process, and are still together now, happier than ever before!’
Channel 4 Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor, Lee McMurray, said the show was ‘committed to and celebrated diversity’.
