MAFS Stars Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli Expect Second Child Amid Severe Morning Sickness Battle

Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli are expanding their family.

The Married At First Sight golden couple, who already share two-year-old son Lucius, announced their impending arrival in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Martha, 37, posted a short video of her toddler son planting a kiss on her growing bump.

In her caption, the former reality star, who battled hyperemesis gravidarum – a severe form of morning sickness – during her first pregnancy, hinted that she is again unwell.

‘Knocked up n’ knocked out. Will be back bigger and better soon… fingers crossed!’ she wrote alongside the clip.

There were congratulations – and commiserations – for Martha in her comments section.

‘Oh sending you all the love. Pregnant with a toddler is no joke. HG with a toddler is brutal…’ wrote Martha’s celebrity pal Renée Bargh.

Model Elyse Knowles chimed in: ‘Hope you’re feeling okay love.’

‘I could only imagine what you are going through, my bestie had HG with her first and hit so hard the second time, so hard on the soul when you have a toddler as well,’ wrote one fan.

Another said: ‘Congrats to you three. Hope HG starts settling soon,’ while one more wrote, ‘Awww congratulations. So sorry you’re so unwell again.’

Martha battled through hyperemesis gravidarum during her pregnancy with son Lucius in 2022, and was hospitalised at the height of her illness.

Michael, 33, explained that prior to presenting at hospital, Martha had spent the ‘best part of the last 10 weeks in bed 24 hours a day, dehydrated, nauseous, vomiting, restless, tired, anxious, fatigued and unable to properly sleep or eat’.

Martha vanished from social media for months during that pregnancy as she was so ill with hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes persistent and excessive nausea and vomiting in pregnant women.

‘I was so sick. I could not eat or drink anything. There were days I didn’t even get up to pee. I lost ten kilos in five weeks,’ Martha explained at the time.

‘We have been in and out of the emergency room and hospital,’ she added.

Martha recently took another social media break, which had many fans speculating – correctly – that she is expecting her second child.

The couple first met on MAFS in 2019 and got engaged two years later, but are yet to marry.

It follows a string of candid updates from Michael, who recently shared an emotional video reflecting on the toll parenthood and pressure have taken on both him and Martha.

The personal trainer revealed that while he loves being a dad, the past two years have been challenging.

‘As cliché as it sounds, I looked in the mirror today and barely recognised the guy looking back,’ he admitted.

‘Not because there’s anything seriously wrong with me, but I finally accepted that I’m not where I should be… physically and mentally.’

He confessed he’s been stuck in ‘survival mode,’ neglecting his own health while prioritising his role as a father and partner.

‘My gym bag has dust on it, the veggies in the fridge are untouched, and the steps haven’t cracked 10,000 in months,’ he wrote.

‘It’s like I’m physically here, but in a thousand other places mentally.’

Despite the challenges, Michael emphasised that fatherhood remains his proudest achievement.

‘Being a dad is a massive part of my purpose,’ he added.

‘But somewhere in the life noise, the pressure, the lack of sleep, the negative thoughts… I stopped being much else.’
