Madonna Shows Support for Britney Spears in Tribute T-Shirt Before Posing Topless 22 Years After Iconic Kiss

They made headlines in 2003 when they shared a steamy kiss on stage at the MTV VMAs. 

And two decades on from the iconic moment, Madonna, 66, proved she’s still one of Britney Spears’ biggest fans as she wore a T-shirt in tribute to the singer, 43, for a day out at The Morgan Library & Museum on Wednesday. 

Sharing a series of snaps to Instagram, the Vogue songstress wrote: ‘It’s Britney B****!’, alongside her Story. 

In another snap, Madonna was also seen posing topless as she got ready in her lavish hotel ahead of her day out in New York. 

Before she explored the Madison Avenue site, the blonde beauty flaunted her age-defying physique with impressive yoga moves and handstands. 

She slipped into a pair of black thigh-high socks and shorts as she enjoyed an inversion therapy session.

Inversion therapy is a technique that involves using gravity to decompress the spine and joints, in an attempt to relieve pain and improving flexibility. 

Madonna has kept her health and flexibility a priority after she had knee surgery in April 2020 followed by hip surgery in November 2020 as well as ‘regenerative treatment for my missing cartilage.’

Her public tribute to Princess of Pop Britney comes 23 years after they made global headlines by sharing a kiss at the VMAs. 

Britney opened the show by singing Madonna’s Like a Virgin, emerging out of a wedding cake while dressed as a bride, as Madonna did in her 1984 VMAs performance.

Soon after that, Christina Aguilera joined Britney onstage for the song before Madonna appeared and launched into her single Hollywood.

During the iconic performance, Madonna leaned over and kissed Britney.

Moments later, Christina also leant in for a smooch – but the moment was not shown. 

During the broadcast only Britney and Madonna’s kiss was aired, followed by a reaction shot of Britney’s former flame Justin Timberlake.

In 2018, Christina admitted she felt left out after her kiss was axed from the broadcast. 

‘It was weird. And you know why they cut away for it? Because they cut away to get Justin’s reaction,’ she said in a radio interview. 

Christina went on to elaborate that the manufactured drama was a ‘cheap shot’ because Britney and Justin were no longer an item.

The radio host then clarified ‘I don’t think people actually totally realize that she [Madonna] made out with both of you that day.’

She confirmed the sentiment, recalling: ‘Yeah, because I definitely saw the newspaper the next day and it was like, “Oh, well, I guess I got left out of that”‘.
