The US singer appeared on the singingshow in 2021, and caused some confusion on set after she became upset following being voted off, with series judge claiming she 'refused to leave' despite being told it was time to.

The I Try hitmaker, 58, has now admitted the confusion stemmed from her being asked to come back on stage, following her elimination, for an encore, which she firmly refused to do.

'I just wanted to get out of there, I just wanted to go. I didn't want to stick around. You know, nobody wants to lose, and then to come out and sing a song?' Macy told news.com.au

'I just don't... It's very intense, you know?'

The popular singer also revealed she will be heading to Australia later this year for a massive 21-show tour.

The Encore Tour will see Macy first perform at Hamer Hall in Melbourne on Friday, September 11th, before heading to Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane.

The veteran singer will also perform in several smaller cities, including Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Townsville and Cairns.

In September 2021, Macy, whose real name is Natalie Renée McIntyre, shocked audiences as she didn't want to leave the Australian reality TV competition following her elimination.

Series judge Dave Hughes later reflected on the incident.

'Macy Gray had such passion for The Masked Singer that when she was told that she had to leave, she refused to,' the comedian said on 2Day FM's Morning Crew.

'She said, "No, I'm continuing in the show," and there had to be a discussion which went for quite a while as to, "No, you have to leave." She said, "No, I'm not."

'The thing is, we can't do the end of the show unless the head comes off.'

Co-host Ed Kavalee then said: 'So, she still had the head on, and they're saying, "Hey, Macy-slash-Atlantis, we need you to take the head off so you can go."
