Macaulay Culkin on Reprising His Iconic Home Alone Role

Macaulay Culkin revealed he’s ‘not completely allergic’ to the idea of him reprising his breakout role as Kevin McCallister in another Home Alone sequel.

The 46-year-old former child star teased at his Nostalgic Night event on Saturday: ‘It would have to be just right.’

It’s been 35 years since Culkin first portrayed the eight-year-old boy fending off robbers in 20th Century Fox’s 1990 comedy Home Alone and 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which amassed a combined $835.7 million at the box office.

Alex D. Linz starred in Raja Gosnell’s three-quel Home Alone 3 alongside Scarlett Johansson, but the following three flicks from the family-friendly franchise streamed directly on ABC and Disney+.

The native New Yorker has even developed a concept for a potential continuation of the treasured holiday classic.

‘I’m either a widower or a divorcé. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out,’ Culkin explained.

‘[He] won’t let me in. He’s the one setting traps for me…The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship “get let back into his heart” kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.’

In real life, the Golden Globe nominee has two sons – Dakota, 4; and Carson, 3 – with fiancée Brenda Song, whom ‘have no idea that I’m Kevin’ and they plan ‘to keep up that illusion as long as possible.’

On November 1, Culkin did reprise his role as Kevin, now concerned for his ailing mother Kate, in the ‘Home But Not Alone’ holiday commercial campaign for in-home senior care company Home Instead.

However, original Home Alone director Chris Columbus is far more skeptical about the possibility of yet another sequel.

‘I think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that,’ the 67-year-old filmmaker told ET in August.

‘I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.’

Culkin – whose legal name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin – is next scheduled to bring his 14-date nostalgic tour to the Bass Concert Hall in Austin, TX this Saturday.

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy actor and Song will voice lynx siblings Cattrick and Kitty Lynxley in Jared Bush and Byron Howard’s long-delayed animated sequel Zootopia 2, which hits US theaters this Wednesday and UK theaters this Friday.
