Dr Alex George has been rushed back to hospital as he gave fans a disheartening update on his health on Thursday.
The Love Island star, 33, took to Instagram as he admitted his ‘spirit feels a bit broken’ as he headed back to A&E after contracting tonsillitis earlier this week.
Alex explained that despite having two procedures and receiving a steroid treatment on Monday, his throat had begun to swell up and worsen again, as he confessed he was finding it hard to stay positive.
Updating his followers he wrote: ‘Spirit feels a bit broken writing this but sadly I had to come back to A&E this morning, throat was swelling up and getting worse.
‘Breathing is ok but thats always the big worry. Really want to be positive but I haven’t slept in a week, hardly eaten with pain and fevers.

Alex explained that despite having two procedures and receiving a steroid treatment on Monday, his throat had begun to swell up and worsen again
‘I know there are so many worse off than me and I am doing my best to be grateful and positive but yeh, can’t always be I guess.’
Alex went on to thank the health professionals for all their support as he shared a snap of himself from the hospital bed hooked up to a machine with cannulas in his arm.
He continued: ‘The doctors and nurses have been so kind and caring, thank you. Just got to roll with punches now and I will be better soon.
‘Thank you so much for the love and support, Alex x’.
Earlier this week Alex shared a snap from outside the A&E and another of him sitting on a hospital cot, with a cannula visible in his arm.
He said he had suffered ‘crazy’ swelling, severe pain and fevers, causing him to rush to the emergency room at midnight.
He wrote: ‘So Easter didn’t go so well. I was hoping to do a March photo dump today but here we are.
‘Last few days I have had tonsillitis with fevers, but yesterday the swelling around my tonsil went crazy and the pain was very bad.

Alex explained that he had suffered ‘crazy’ swelling, severe pain and fevers, causing him to rush to the emergency room at midnight as he praised the NHS team that had looked after him
‘I was hoping it wouldn’t get worse but at midnight last night, it was too much and could hardly swallow so I went to St Thomas A&E.’
Returning to the St Thomas brought back some difficult memories for the doctor, as it was same hospital he was treated at when he battled sepsis, which left Alex bed-bound for several days and nearly killed him.
He reflected: ‘Kind of weird for me coming back to St Thomas Hospital, as a few years ago I nearly died of sepsis. If it were not for the incredible care of the doctors and nurses I wouldn’t be here.
‘There is a deep humbling that happens when you feel so unwell that you need to ask someone, “please can you help me?”.
‘In asking that question you are submitting yourself and allowing others to intervene and help you, when you can’t help yourself further.
‘I had this same feeling, probably to a greater extent, when I had sepsis. A realization of, what would I do if you weren’t here to help me right now? Like really, what would I do?’
Alex praised the NHS team that had looked after him and expressed his gratitude for the kind treatment, revealing he had undergone two procedures and medication and was feeling better.

He gushed: ‘Last night I was looked after by the A&E team at St Thomas (who were lovely and amazing), before being transferred to Guys Hospital under the care of the ENT team.
‘I had medications and a procedure overnight, and felt some relief. I have had another procedure this morning and feel on the mend.
‘I cannot emphasize, reiterate, or say this enough, I am so grateful to everyone that has looked after me.
‘From the doctors and nurses, to the receptionist who booked me in with kindness and empathy, the paramedic who transferred me and kept me feeling positive, to the lovely cook who’s sorting me an apple crumble to nibble on. You are a credit to your profession and your families.’
Reflecting on his health, while admitting to feeling ‘high’ due to the medication, he added: ‘I’m lying in the hospital bed right now, feeling slightly high from the steroids, but really thinking how much I value my health, being able to move and exercise, being able to feel well.
‘Never take it for granted! No day is promised, lets live as much as we can.’
He concluded by thanking his fans for their support and assuring he would be back with his dog Rolo soon.
Alex penned: ‘All going well, I hope to be reunited with Rolo Polo later this evening or tomorrow, who has also been poorly. What a pair! Thanks for all the kind messages, I appreciate you SO much. Alex x’.

Alex then wrote: ‘I really really really don’t want quinsy… a little bit of knowledge is dangerous!
‘I’m eye balling my tonsils and willing a peri-tonsilar abscess not to form. Might be a trip to a and e tomorrow morning if it progresses. Between Rolo and I we have had a right palava this bank holiday.’
Complications of tonsillitis are very rare, but can result in a abscess forming between your tonsils and the wall of your throat, which is called quinsy.
Signs of quinsy are when swelling in the mouth and throat gets so painful and severe that you have difficulty speaking, swallowing, breathing or opening your mouth.
The NHS recommends that you call 999 or go to A&E you have these symptoms.

He was appointed Youth Mental Health Ambassador by the Prime Minister to raise the profile of mental health education and wellbeing in schools.
The star, who found fame on Love Island in 2018, previously met Kate for World Mental Health Day.
In a statement posted on Instagram, he said: ‘The Princess of Wales left a real impression on me when we met for World Mental Health Day.
‘I have met so many people who talk about mental health over the years, I have come to learn who talks the talk, and who walks the walk. The Princess is a stomper. A real good egg.’
Referencing the social media speculation around Kate’s health in recent weeks, Alex said he hoped the Princess’ statement would help society to ‘learn and grow’.
He wrote: ‘It’s been pretty shocking to see the level of intrusion over the last few weeks and months, you can only imagine the effect on this person’s mental health.

‘As I am sure you all do, I wish the Princess a good and full recovery from her cancer and I hope when ready, HRH will be with us on the front line, fighting for mental health and our young people once again.
‘Just remember, be kind. You never know what challenges someone is facing, or the battles they are trying to overcome. You got this, Your Royal Highness.’
