It was the sun-soaked South African villa where romance blossomed and tempers flared on the third series of .

But according to newly crowned winner Ciaran Davies, a staggering ‘90 per cent’ of the villa was struck down with stomach problems during filming in .

Fresh from lifting the £50,000 prize alongside , the Welsh star revealed what he described as a villa-wide bout of upset stomachs that left contestants battling digestive issues off-camera.

‘About 90 per cent of the islanders on the All Stars had stomach problems,’ he told the Daily Mail.

‘I don't know whether it’s just being in a different country so far away in South Africa that perhaps our bodies weren’t used to the food, the drinks or anything,’ he said. ‘I’m not sure what it was, but a lot of people had an upset stomach.

‘I know that from previous years in South Africa, like that was the case in their series as well.’

Samie and Ciaran coupled up soon after she entered the villa as a bombshell, and despite many late arrivals and twists, the pair's romance was the strongest of the series

As host Maya Jama announced them as the winners, Samie and Ciaran struggled to hide their shock at being crowned champions

The revelation will ring alarm bells with fans, after 2024 All Stars winner Molly Smith previously described a similar ‘tragic’ food poisoning outbreak that left her cast ‘bed bound’ and queuing for the notoriously scarce villa bathrooms.

But Ciaran, who previously reached the Love Island final in 2024 alongside Nicole Samuel, insisted the food itself was some of the best the show has ever served.

He said: ‘The food tasted amazing. It tasted a lot better than what we had in Mallorca, I remember it clear as day.

‘The favourite was the chicken pot pie we had, it tasted unbelievable, it was so good.

‘We'd have chicken and rice, some lovely curries, and we got jacket potatoes. The food tasted really good, really good.'

But if the menu impressed, the weather did not.

Despite the idyllic backdrop, Ciaran, 23, revealed the South African villa was plagued by icy evenings and biting winds – something eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed as the girls were occasionally seen visibly shivering during nighttime challenges.

‘It was freezing, it was very windy,’ he said. ‘There were a few nights where it was very, very cold.

‘The girls, bless them, they used to come out in their lovely dresses, they’d be out for five minutes, and they’d go back in, and they’d be going through all our cupboards taking all the boys’ jackets.’

Breaking down in tears, Samie emotionally thanked viewers for voting for them, with the thrilled couple sharing a kiss in celebration

It comes after Ciaran and Samie, 26, were crowned champions of the ITV spin-off – which sees former islanders return to the villa for another shot at love – following a fraught series .

And while their romance proved among the strongest of the season, Ciaran said the pair are taking things slowly on the outside.
