Louis Walsh, who isn’t one to hold back, goes straight onto the topic of family ties with Gary and asks: ‘I have to ask you, have you met Meghan Markle ?’
Gary explained it is ‘difficult at the best of times’ to get hold of his niece Kate, who is currently recovering from abdominal surgery.
Louis asks: ‘Is it difficult for you, being related to famous people?’
Gary, who made millions owning a recruitment company, said: ‘I didn’t vote for it, it happened to me, and then suddenly there’s a spotlight on you.’
Discussing his thoughts about his nickname, he says: ‘They call me the buncle! Have you heard of a buncle? Bad uncle, apparently every family has them.’
Gary has been married four times and was convicted in 2017 of assaulting his fourth wife, Julie-Ann.
He pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating and was fined £5,000 and handed a 12-month community order with 20 sessions of rehabilitation.
Gary then admits: ‘It’s difficult to get hold of Kate at the best of times, and she’s got children and I love the fact that she’s putting family first.’
Kate was seen for the first time since her surgery during an outing in the car with her mother Caroleand is expected to return to her duties at Easter time.

Gary revealed his niece Kate will be ‘hiding behind the sofa if she is watching’ as he became the sixth contestant to enter the house during Monday’s launch
Gary also confesses he thinks Will and Kate are both the ‘the saviour of the royal family’, as the heirs to the throne.
During Monday’s explosive launch episode as Gary prepared to enter the house, host AJ Odudu wasted no time in asking him whether his royal niece would be tuning in.
Gary joked: ‘She will be hiding behind the sofa if she is watching’.
Gary, who is reportedly worth £30 million, has enjoyed a close relationship with the Princess of Wales over the years, and attended her wedding to Prince William in 2011.
Kate was a bridesmaid at Gary’s first wedding to sales executive Miranda Foote in 1991, and her uncle previously revealed how the heartbroken royal sought solace at his Ibiza villa after a break-up with William.
Kate is away from official royal engagements after major surgery in January, with Kensington Palace insisting last week that she was still ‘doing well’.
She has not been seen at any royal events since attending church at Sandringham on Christmas Day with William and their children George, Charlotte and Louis.
Gary is said to have told friends that he won’t do anything to hurt Kate or William – but he has previously attacked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and they could therefore now be in the firing line.

The star also admitted that he is hoping his stint on Big Brother will allow the public to see a different side of him
The star also admitted that he is hoping his stint on Big Brother will allow the public to see a different side of him.
He said: ‘I often read that people think I’m a bit of a bad boy. It would be lovely to put the record straight but winding people up is probably one of my favourite hobbies.
‘Every part of me is just riddled with mischief and danger.’
Referring to his four marriages, he added: ‘I am an absolute nightmare to live with, there’s a reason why I have had four wives.’
Speaking to hosts AJ and Will upon entering the house, he added: ‘I’ll take everyone face value but if they are a bit mean or a bit rude, I’ll be the enforcer.’
Gary exclusively told The Sun in January: ‘I’ve spoken to Carole just to send my love and we talked about Kate given what’s going on.
‘There’s lots going on in the family moment. So she’s spinning a lot of plates right now, it’s quite stressful. So the last thing I’m going to do is bring any stress to them.’
He added: ‘I think she [Carole] will probably be watching me from behind the sofa, slightly anxious, but I do think if the best version that Gary turns up, she’d be very proud of me – that’s what we were hoping for!’

Gary has previously spoken in support of Kate – including to the Mail on Sunday in March 2021 after Harry and Meghan’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey interview.
He said at the time: ‘I’ve known Kate since she was born and she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. It’s just simply not in her nature.
‘She’s even lovelier on the inside than on the outside. If anyone had a hissy fit, it must have been Meghan. Kate would have been trying to make the peace. I would fight for Kate’s honour until the day I die. She is the most spectacular person I’ve ever met.’
He previously spoke out against Harry and Meghan after the release of Spare and is known for his outspoken opinions on the couple. Writing for the Mail last year, he slammed Harry’s autobiography Spare as ‘petulant, self-serving…fluff’.

Fern says to Sharon: ‘How could you have judged three of them out, straight away? Terrible!’
Louis comes face to face with Zeze, who asks: ‘What was the criteria?’
Louis replies: ‘I’m not telling you, it was who we liked and didn’t like!’ Adding that it was ‘On first impressions, I can’t say anymore.’

Louis has also reportedly landed in hot water with fellow contestant Lauren.
The first explosive row has allegedly already broken out as Louis and Lauren came to to blows after both wanting the same double bed, reports The Sun.
Just hours after they entered, the famous faces headed the bedroom to make claim to where they wanted to sleep.
Lauren had settled herself on the plush bed only to then be turfed out by Louis who wanted it too, the report claims.
A source told the publication: ‘Lauren isn’t used to not getting her own way but when it comes to age and star-power Louis of course totally outranks her.
‘It was hard for her to form any kind of solid argument as to why he ought to make way for her to enjoy the bigger bed solo over him, but she put up a good fight.
‘It was the first sign of tension in the house, just hours after the celebs entered – and suggests none of them will be shy about sharing opinions or holding their own.’
