Lorde has sparked backlash after admitting to watching Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s stolen sex tape.
The star, 28, revealed to Rolling Stone that she looked up the infamous video after undergoing a psychedelic therapy session.
For reasons unclear even to her, she watched the entire video.
‘I found it to be so beautiful,’ Lorde, who is releasing her new album Virgin next month, admitted. ‘And maybe it’s f**ked up that I watched it, but I saw two people that were so in love with each other, and there was this purity.
‘They were jumping off this big boat.… They were like children. They were so free. And I just was like, “Whoa. Being this free comes with danger.”‘
Anderson and Lee’s privacy was invaded when a sex tape they made was stolen and distributed without their consent in the 1990s.

Lorde has sparked backlash after admitting to watching Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s controversial sex tape

The ‘home videos’ had been stolen from a safe located in Pamela and Tommy’s garage during their marriage, and put together to create the infamous ‘sex tape,’ that caused a media frenzy
Various netizens reacted angrily to Lorde’s viewing revelation.
‘Just a reminder that this tape was STOLEN and then sold,’ one posted on X. ‘pamela anderson took the cast to court but was forced to end the trial, because of the harm the stress was causing to her and her unborn child. under no circumstances should this tape be watched or distributed.’
‘Lorde makes it so hard to defend her,’ one posted with a sobbing emoji. ‘Pamela Anderson has been vocal about the damage this caused to her mentally, to their relationship, & to her career. it’s a violation – they never consented to anyone watching it, it was literally stolen from their house.
‘Not to mention glamorizing an abusive relationship. yikes yikes yikes,’ one wrote.
‘I’m disgusted tbh,’ one replied. ‘never liked her she’s so icky.’
‘damn this makes me so sad,’ another wrote.
‘knowing the trauma pamela went through and the fact that this were released without her consent makes this all more disgusting and weird on lorde behalf,’ another posted.
One follower called the revelation ‘icky.’
‘I’m telling you all this new trend of edgy white girls saying whatever to seem “different” is getting out of hand. Lorde calling Pamela Anderson’s revenge porn with her physically abusive ex Tommy Lee “beautiful” is just flat out vile and indefensible,’ another posted (Lee spent six months in jail after he pleaded no contest to felony spousal abuse after he reportedly assaulted Anderson while she was holding their then baby son Dylan in 1998, according to the LA Times).
Anderson and Lee were married from 1995 to 1998 and have sons Brandon, 28, and Dylan, 27, together.
Pamela has described how much anguish the stolen tape brought her, which she has not seen.
She also has not watched the 2022 mini series about the scandal, Pam & Tommy, which starred Lily James and Sebastian Stan.

Netizens slammed Lorde for watching the stolen sex tape

Lorde, pictured 2022, will be releasing her fifth studio album Virgin on June 27
Pamela was not involved in the making of the show, which was made and released without her permission (Entertainment Weekly reports the show did contact Anderson during development however received no response).
‘It really gives me nightmares,’ Pamela said in her 2023 documentary, Pamela, a love story, after her sons informed her about the show.
‘I have no desire to watch it. I never watched the tape, I’m never going to watch this,’ she said.
‘A**holes,’ she called the makers of the show in an interview with Variety. ‘Salt on the wound. … You still owe me a public apology.’
The tape was stolen in 1995 by Rand Gauthier, an electrician who had done work on the couple’s house. After Tommy refused to pay him for the work he had done, he stole a massive safe from their garage.
It was only after he had a chance to go through the contents that he learned that the footage from the sex tape had been locked away in the safe.
The tape was later obtained by Seth Warshavsky, who initially streamed the video online, before trying to set up a distribution agreement with Pamela and Tommy.

The scandal was the subject of a 2021 series, Pam & Tommy, which upset the Baywatch star
The couple eventually signed the agreement to cut down on their stresses over lawsuits, but the agreement — which Pam reportedly thought would confine distribution to online — ended up being much broader than she believed.
With the agreement signed, Warshavsky then licensed the video out to a video company to print physical copies for sale in adult stores.
Sales of the tape reportedly generated hundreds of millions in dollars, but none of that money was making its way back to Pam and Tommy.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the couple then filed a copyright suit for the physical distribution. As they had made the tape together — and not just starred in it — they were considered the copyright holders.
The couple were eventually awarded $740,000 each in a judgement against Warshavsky, but he reportedly never paid either of them.
