Linda Nolan has said people who said false or mocking things about the Princess of Wales before her cancer treatment was revealed should apologise.
The singer, 65, part of the family pop group The Nolans, is also being treated for cancer.
Apologies have already come from figures including the actress Blake Lively after many took to their social media to speculate and make jokes.
Nolan told ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Monday: ‘Of course they should say sorry.
‘But, you know, sorry is an easy word to say sometimes and they may be doing it because other people are doing it.

‘They should never have even thought it in the first place, to put down lies and horrible words. Sorry doesn’t cut it sometimes.’
In a video message released on Friday, Kate said she was in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy following her January visit to hospital for abdominal surgery.
Discussing the announcement and whether the senior royal should have disclosed more, Nolan said: ‘I think she did right. I think we all wondered what type of cancer it was. I think she did well, in the fact that she came out and told us when she didn’t have to.
‘Who says they have to tell us their life story? They are doing their jobs.
‘If she wants to keep it secret and her treatment secret, then that’s how she’s going to handle it and good luck to her.’
Nolan was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and the disease resurfaced in 2017 and has since spread to her brain, bones and liver.
Elsewhere in the interview she revealed her latest cancer scan has shown ‘no progression in the disease’ after learning her tumours had shrunk.
Giving a positive update on GMB, Linda told of how the cancer in her bones and liver had stayed the same.
Nolan told ITV’s GMB on Monday: ‘Of course they should say sorry. ‘But, you know, sorry is an easy word to say sometimes and they may be doing it because other people are doing it’
She added: ‘They should never have even thought it in the first place, to put down lies and horrible words. Sorry doesn’t cut it sometimes’
Kate, 42, – who is married to Prince William and shares Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte , eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis with him – has been absent from public duties since January
She told hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley: ‘My scan showed that there’s no progression in the disease in my bones and liver, and the tumours in my brain have shrunk a little.
‘That was a day before my birthday. We had a party – either way we were going to have a party. But it was good news, so we really had a party.’
Later in the chat, addressing Kate’s message in her video that people struggling with cancer are not alone, Nolan said: ‘I thought it was perfect. I’m suffering myself and I listened, and I took everything in, and she’s so right for someone who has been diagnosed.
‘Hope – you’ve got to have hope and people around you that love you.’
Hollywood actress Lively seemingly mocked Kate after she issued a personal apology for manipulating a family photograph, sparking conspiracy theories about her whereabouts.
Referencing a now-deleted Instagram post, Lively said: ‘I’m sure no-one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this.
‘I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.’
The Princess of Wales made the shock announcement on Friday evening, but did not reveal what cancer she has.
Catherine’s cancer was discovered only after she underwent major abdominal surgery at The London Clinic in January.
Kensington Palace has said it will not be sharing details of what kind of cancer the princess has, or what stage of cancer it is and has asked people not to speculate.
At the time of her abdominal surgery in January, Kensington Palace said that it was non-cancerous.
However post-operative tests subsequently found that cancer ‘had been present’.
Speaking from a bench surrounded by daffodils and spring blossom, the future queen said: ‘I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I’ve been recovering from surgery.
‘It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. But I’ve had a fantastic medical team who’ve taken great care of me for which I’m so grateful.

‘In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London. And at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.
‘The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation on cancer had been present.
‘This of course, came as a huge shock. And William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.
‘As you can imagine, this has taken time, it has taken me time to recover for major surgery in order to start my treatment.’
