Lily-Rose Depp insists she will work ‘ten times harder’ to ‘prove herself’ and make her own way despite having famous parents

When your dad is Johnny Depp and your mum Vanessa Paradis, you’d perhaps expect their daughter to boast about her fame and riches thanks to her multi-millionaire parents.

But Lily-Rose Depp is so keen to make her own way as a Hollywood star, and insists that she works harder than most other young starlets to make it.

In an interview with Josh Horrowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday, the 25-year-old star revealed she works harder to prove herself because of who her parents are.

‘I don’t mind working harder if that’s what people want from me to prove myself,’ she said.

‘I love what I do, it’s the only thing I know how to do. So I feel like I have to do this.

‘And if that means working ten times harder, then that’s okay. I am not ashamed, my parents are such talented performers. I am blessed to be their daughter and watch them go about their careers.’

Clearly keen to go under the radar, Lily-Rose rarely shares much to her 8.3 million Instagram followers apart from red carpet snaps and trailers for new projects.

She also refuses to openly defend her father, whose turbulent relationship with Amber Heard which ended up in court over claims he abused her.

Nor has she ever commented on her father’s substance abuse which he claims started when he was just age 11.

‘I’m not here to answer for anybody,’ she said, ‘And I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever.

‘And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.’

Unlike many other wannabes, Lily-Rose refuses to share too much of her own life too.

In contrast to many other glamourous twenty-something girls, she only has Instagram which she rarely updates unless she is proudly promoting her work.

She has no other social media accounts and rather than being a party animal, she prefers to stay at home, cooking with her friends as well as making pottery.

It can also be revealed that and her fashion icons are her French singer mother Vanessa, as well as Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex And The City.

She was the star of her girlfriend’s most recent music video where she dances around a diner in a pink latex dress in an attempt to seduce 070 Shake.

Speaking on her relationship this week with Harpers Bazaar, she said: ‘She’s just the most amazing person I’ve ever met.

‘Honestly, the most kind-hearted person. I’m super in love and I’m super happy.

‘I’ve always been really private about my personal life, but it’s hard not to talk about her because I’m so happy. It’s just when you know, you know.

‘Love is love. You fall in love with who you fall in love with. It’s never seemed more complicated than that.’

Her close circle of friends are not as famous as her, but ones she works very closely with.

The eldest child of Johnny, 61, and Vanessa, 52, Lily was born just outside of Paris in May 1999 and was thrust into a life of fame and spotlight thanks to her parents global fame.

During Lily-Rose’s early years, the Depp-Paradis family divided their time between their homes in France and LA, and she would often travel with her parents while they were working.

She told Interview Magazine last year: ‘I definitely want to have kids and when that time comes, I’ll be bringing them around. I grew up that way, and as much as there were moments where I was like, ‘I want to be at school with my friends,’ now that I’m older, I’m so grateful.

‘Not only that I have travelled so much, thanks to my parents having to bring me around, but also for what I now see as the work that they put into making sure that my brother and I had a life in these places that were not ours.’

When she quit school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in acting, many around her were not surprised, after all Johnny is one of the most well-known actors of all time, starring in leading roles such as Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands.

Early reviewers have declared Lily-Rose has broken away from the nepo-baby mould and is ‘outstanding’.

Some critics have even claimed she could earn Oscar recognition for the film – something her father has managed to be nominated three times for, though never won.

Terminating it a ‘transfixing performance’, The Hollywood Reporter ‘s David Rooney added that ‘the movie belongs to Depp, whose performance is a revelation’.

She is certainly someone many global brands would love to work with but so far Lily-Rose has only accepted the best of the best, Chanel.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, in 2015, at age 16, she became a brand ambassador for French fashion house Chanel in a decision personally overseen by Karl Lagerfeld.

In 1991 her mother was also made an ambassador. Although close to her biological brother Jack, he instead chose a life away from fame.

Jack Depp, 22, was spotted in Paris on Christmas eve in a rare sighting as he’s rarely ever seen in public after he decided to move to the French capital and step away from the limelight.

The reclusive star works in secret at a trendy Lebanese restaurant called L’Area in the Bastille quarter of Paris as a bartender.
