Leonardo DiCaprio’s costar Lily Gladstone revealed she was his fan long before they worked together on their recent film.
After starring opposite one another in Killers Of The Flower Moon, the 37-year-old actress admitted she once using her allowance to buy a VHS tape of Titanic.
In an interview with People published on Tuesday, she recalled her childhood story of how spending her allowance to buy the 1997 classic film to watch the actor, now 49, in one of his most iconic roles.
She also told the outlet that she had been a fan of his before that moment and had watched several of his other movies before Titanic.
‘I loved that movie,’ said the Certain Women star — who attended a special screening of their Western film in London with the Romeo + Juliet alum earlier this month.

‘It was one of the first things I spent my allowance on,’ she continued. ‘I pre-ordered the double VHS set from Toys ‘R’ Us when that was still around.’
She explained that she still remembers the craze over DiCaprio before Titanic was released and the exact commercial.
‘I remember the Blockbuster commercial, [with store employees] hearing the crowd of young women approaching,’ she recalled. ‘[The workers] set the TItanic of the shelf, and then you hear all the young ladies, and they’re like, “Uh oh, here they come.”‘
She admitted she bought the movie because she was a fan of the story and his character and not because she had a crush on him.
‘I loved that movie for the film and for Kate Winslet,’ she said. ‘Leo was great in it because Jack Dawson was great.’
She added that she liked the stowaway character so much that she would ‘project my crushes into Jack Dawson’.
‘And it’s funny, whenever I had crushes in sixth grade — because the year that it came out for me — I would kind of project my crushes into Jack Dawson,’ she explained.
‘It was never on Jack Dawson,’ she continued, noting that she had long been a fan of DiCaprio and watched his prior projects.

‘I had been a fan of Leo long before that,’ she recalled. ‘My first film that I watched him in was, I can’t remember which one came first, but it was either What’s Eating Gilbert Grape or This Boy’s Life,’ she said. ‘I loved Romeo + Juliet.’
She added that her favorite film of his was The Man in the Iron Mask and seeing him play both King Louis XIV and his twin brother Phillippe in the 1998 loose adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas novel inspired her to keep pursuing her dream of acting.
‘I already knew at that point I wanted to be an actor and getting to see one actor play that kind of duality, it was really cool,’ she said.
More than two decades later, she auditioned for director Martin Scorsese’s historical drama and landed the role of Mollie.
