The young royal, clad in a racy off-the-shoulder silk evening gown, made quite the statement in the wake of Prince Charles’ infidelity coming to light, with newspapers around the world dubbing the garment her ‘revenge dress’.
Now, 30 years on from that pivotal moment in pop culture history, Lily Allen has given a whole new meaning to the term revenge dressing, attending the 2025 CFDA Awards in a jaw-dropping ensemble amid the breakdown of her own marriage.
Ensuring her ex would see exactly what he’s missing, the mother-of-two took to the red carpet in a tiny white bralet that flashed her assets and toned stomach.
The look was a metaphorical middle finger to her estranged husband David Harbour, 50, who has come under fire of late for his alleged infidelity as well as claims he ‘bullied and harassed’ a younger co-star on set.

As Diana’s marriage began to crumble she famously told the world of Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, announcing on Panorama: ‘There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.’
While in Lily’s case, she used the medium of song to declare her husband’s infidelity, singing: ‘Why aren’t we f***ing, baby? Yeah, that’s what you said. But you let me think it was me in my head, and nothing to do with them girls in your bed.’
Her latest album, West End Girl, is a no holds barred look at the dissolution of her marriage, in which she recounts learning her husband was having an affair with a woman she has named Madeline.
During a recent interview, Lily insisted that she didn’t want to seek ‘revenge’ on her ex and didn’t feel like she was being ‘mean’ by divulging their private lives.
However, her lyrics – which she has confessed is a blend of fact and fiction – questions if her ex is a sex addict and recounts finding a plethora of sex toys and condoms at his other apartment, which she dubs ‘Pussy Palace’.
She also recounts confronting David’s mistress because she ‘can’t trust anything that comes out of his [David’s] mouth’.
West End Girl has been critically acclaimed and quickly became the UK’s most-downloaded album of the week, landing at Number 1 on the Official Albums Downloads Chart.
And much like when Diana separated from Charles, the court of public opinion appears to have swayed to the female side.

During the spooky holiday which she spent in Los Angeles, Lily dressed up as children’s book character, Madeline, who is the name given to her ex’s lover.
Celebrating at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, the singer channelled the titular character from the classic series by Ludwig Bemelmans, after the release of her explosive song of the same name.
David also came under fire from his ex-girlfriend Alison Sudol, who publicly showed her support for Lily and her ‘brutal’ new album.
The actress and songwriter made her feelings clear when she took to Instagram to reply to one of Lily’s posts about the new record.
Alison, 40, who dated David for a year in 2018 before he was first linked to the Not Fair hitmaker, replied with seven flame emojis to Lily’s post promoting the record.
While David has kept a relatively low profile in wake of the allegations, it should be noted that Lily’s break-up album was released just days after the Stranger Things’ press tour kicked off.

David has been one of the fan-favourites in the hit Netflix series since he made his debut as Police Chief Jim Hopper back in 2016.
From saving the day against the creatures of the Upside Down to getting wrapped up in a love story with Winona Ryder’s Joyce, there’s been plenty of opportunity for fans to get behind him.
But David appears to be falling out of favour when it comes to the sci-fi hit, as he ‘disappeared’ in many of the scenes of the final trailer last week.
The American actor has also been hit by shocking claims he ‘bullied and harassed’ co-star Millie Bobby Brown, prompting her to request a personal representative with her on set while filming.
He is said to have faced an internal enquiry after British actress Millie, 21, allegedly complained about his behaviour towards her.
Netflix declined to comment about any investigation, while David has also not responded to the allegations.
It is expected that he will not be a prominent figure on the Stranger Things press tour, which has seen the cast travel to the likes of London, Berlin, Paris, Istanbul, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Toronto, New York, and more.
The tour will conclude with a world premiere of the series in Los Angeles on Thursday.

However, a source previously claimed David was lying low in the wake of his estranged wife’s album.
The insider claimed: ‘There is no way that he can now be part of the press tour while this is going on, it would be an utter embarrassment.
‘It must be devastating for David that he is unable to fully participate in the final chapter of the show that made him famous.’
While David’s appearance in the Stranger Things trailer was notably fleeting, it remains to be seen how much air time he will receive when the fifth and final season airs.
Stranger Things returns to Netflix on November 27.
