Lily Allen has revealed she will be flying in first class while her daughter Ethel sits in economy for their upcoming trip to London.
The singer, who shares daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, with her ex husband Sam Cooper, made the confession during the latest episode of her podcast Miss Me? with her childhood friend Miquita Oliver.
The hitmaker, who now lives in New York with her husband David Harbour, explained she will be coming to London to visit Miquita for her 40th birthday celebrations on Thursday, but she won’t be travelling sitting next to her daughter.
She told her friend: ‘We are flying to London today to come and see you for your birthday. I’m going in first class, she’s going in economy.’
As the pair laughed, Miquita joked: ‘Wow, Merry Christmas Ethel,’ before asking ‘You what that is?’

Lily joked: ‘Selfish?’ as Miquita continued: ‘The circle of life. That baby is now coming to London because you live in New York for my 40th birthday, which we are having at the end of the road we grew up on.’
Lily isn’t the first celebrity to admit she travels in first class without her children after Gordon Ramsay previously admitted he never lets his children fly first class with him.
The TV chef explained he wanted to keep his children grounded by making them fly economy, not letting them eat in his restaurants and making them work for their pocket money to ensure they understood the value of his hard-earned cash.
Meanwhile A Place In The Sun’s Kirstie Allsopp has also admitted her sons will sit in economy seating while she relaxes in business class during family holidays together.
The presenter told The Sun back in 2018 that she believes paying extra for their seats is ‘absurd’ and would rather spend the money on the trip itself.
Lily’s recent comments come after she admitted her two daughters have ‘totally ruined’ her pop career because she chose to prioritise them instead of work – insisting, ‘You can’t have it all’.
The singer-turned-actress said she believes women have to decide whether to put their children or their career first, saying she chose the former.
‘My children ruined my career. I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop-stardom, they totally ruined it,’ she told the Radio Times Podcast.

‘I get really annoyed when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t.
‘Some people choose their career over their children and that’s their prerogative, but my parents were quite absent when I was a kid.
‘I feel like it left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat on mine.’
Lily’s father is actor Keith Allen, 70, who walked out on her film producer mother Alison Owen, 63, when Lily was four years old.
Lily has now said that she ‘chose to step back and concentrate on my children’ and she’s glad that she has as ‘they’re pretty well-rounded.’
