She’s the New York Times Best-Selling author of How to Be a Bawse and Be a Triangle – self-improvement titles that have resonated with millions of her followers.
But now, YouTube star Lilly Singh is revealing the self-help book that she turns to in times of ‘struggles’ and one that has most impacted her own journey of self-discovery, in a candid new interview with Spotify’s For The Record.
‘A book that really resonated with me is The Four Agreements,’ Lilly – who launched her own book club called Lilly’s Library in 2021 – reveals.
The self-help book, written by Don Miguel Ruiz, outlines a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom, and has been popular among other celebrities – including retired NFL star Tom Brady.
Lilly, 35, explains: ‘I love this book. It’s a very, very simple and practical guide to personal freedom. And it’s just well written and easy to understand.’

She adds: ‘It was actually the inspiration for my second book, Be a Triangle. Anytime I’m struggling, I open that book and read a section of it. It’s been like a life resource for me.’
It was first published in 1997 and gained popularity after it was endorsed by Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2001 and later in 2013.
The book is made up four agreements to live by: “Be impeccable with your word”, “Do not take anything personally”, “Do not make assumptions”, and “Always do your best”.
Audiobooks are now being offered as an added perk for Spotify Premium users, debuting in the U.S. today, including Lilly’s best-selling titles.
Elsewhere, Lilly also gave a shout out to At Least You Have Your Health by Madi Sinha.
‘I like this book because it made me laugh and it was a nice read,’ she says.

‘But what I really liked was the subject matter. It’s a commentary on the women’s health sector and is about how understudied women’s bodies are. The book is done in a very, very smart way.’
Talking about her own decision to become an author, Lilly said literature felt like a ‘safer space’ to share some of her deeper and more personal stories.
‘I can talk about things in as much detail as I want,’ she says. ‘And I’ll just be completely honest: Some stories feel safer writing it. When your face is in a video, it can be tough to talk about things, but sometimes when you’re using words, you can hide in the beauty and safety of the pages.’
‘I feel writing allows you to go a little bit more vulnerable and deeper than you otherwise might.’
