Liam Gallagher Rocks Aussie Style with Cork Hat in Sydney Arrival

Liam Gallagher touched down in Sydney on Wednesday.

And onlookers were stunned when the 53-year-old Oasis frontman stepped off his private jet sporting an old-fashioned Aussie look.

Dressed in his familiar baggy parka, he completed his outfit with a floral shirt, jeans and slip-ons, and added a local touch with a green cork hat.

Liam’s soft, wide-brimmed headwear featured a series of corks hung on strings on the edge of the hat’s wide brim.

The old-fashioned cap is an Australian staple, with the swinging corks designed to ward off flies.

Sold these days as a tourist souvenir, the cork hat originated as an essential part of a bushman’s life Down Under in the 18th and 19th century.

In Outback Australia, then, the cork-hat was created so workers could avoid flies getting into their eyes, mouths and ears.

The theory being that the swinging corks would distract the flies before they could become a nuisance.

Carrying luggage in a travel bag over one shoulder, Liam hid his eyes behind a large pair of dark glasses and hurriedly crossed the tarmac before climbing into a waiting van.

After Liam was seen wearing the iconic and unmistakably Aussie headgear, fans might wonder if the rock star is clapping back after a recent online controversy involving his band.

Concertgoers were shocked when stars Noel and Liam cheekily mocked the Aussie accent during their sold-out show in Melbourne on Friday.

The Britpop legends were performing a sing-along of their iconic song Don’t Look Back in Anger with the packed crowd of 55,000 people at Marvel Stadium when they made the quip.

During the chorus, guitarist Noel, 58, mocked the roaring crowd over their very pronounced Australian accent.

‘Anga? Anga? What the f***ing hell is “anga”?’ a confused Noel asked, as Liam looked on in amusement.

Furious fans quickly took to social media to slam the Manchester natives for making fun of the iconic Australian accent.

‘As if he says it any better LMAO,’ one person quipped.

‘He’s insufferable,’ a second added and another chimed in: ‘International bully’.

However, another suggested the brothers were simply displaying their trademark cheeky humour.

‘I was there last night, I would be surprised if anyone took offence to that comment. The Poms and the Aussies have been taking the p**s out of each other on how we pronounce words for a couple of centuries now,’ one person wrote.

It comes after the outspoken brothers kicked off the Australian leg of their world tour with a literal bang on Friday night.

Oasis performed in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium to thousands of screaming fans for the first of their sold-out shows Down Under.

The iconic brothers were left stunned halfway through their song Champagne Supernova when one fan set off flares in the middle of their set.

Footage of the incident shows the bright red light illuminating the nosebleeds before someone threw a flare into the surrounding crowd.

It landed on the ground amid the packed moshpit, burning as concertgoers attempted to back away from the glare.

Liam, 53, and Noel didn’t let the disruption interrupt their set, though the younger of the two called out the reckless act when he finished singing.

‘That was naughty. Naughty, naughty, naughty,’ Liam said as he wagged his finger at the culprit before continuing on with the show.

However, according to one attendee, Noel ‘looked worried’ about the incident.

Liam later took to social media to slam the culprit yet again.

‘To the massive C*** who launched that flare into the crowd last night at the gig in Melbourne you are 1 seriously f***ed up individual. You will get yours, trust me,’ he vowed.

Oasis will perform in Melbourne again on Tuesday, with the Wonderwall fan favourites then set to head to New South Wales.

They will put on shows in Sydney at the Accor Stadium on Friday and Saturday, on November 7 and 8.

It is the first time they have toured the country since 2005.
