Now 51, DiCaprio was approaching his 17th birthday and already developing a name for himself as one to watch courtesy of his starring roles in US sitcoms Parenthood and Growing Pains when the pop culture publication came calling with a series of straightforward questions.
And the fresh-faced star was happy oblige by revealing his favourite food – ‘pasta, pasta and more pasta’ – his favourite band – Pink Floyd – and his favourite song, the international hit You Can’t Touch This, by MC Hammer.
Elsewhere, DiCaprio cited Michael Jackson’s legendary Thriller as the first album he ever bought and Europe as his favourite holiday destination – fitting, given he’s spent so much of his adult life cruising its oceans with an assortment of friends, family and girlfriends.

The 35-year old interview has subsequently found its way to the surface following DiCaprio’s meme-worthy appearance at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday evening.
The actor found himself the butt of numerous jokes courtesy of host Nikki Glaser, with the American comedienne frequently calling him out for dating a string of notably younger models and actresses, among them 27-year old Vittoria Ceretti.
Commenting on his teenage chat, fans praised DiCaprio for exhibiting a broad taste in music, while others poked fun at his favourite car – a solar powered 1982 Jaguar – despite the star later establishing himself as an outspoken environmentalist.
One fan saw the irony in DiCaprio citing Parenthood as his favourite film after getting his big break after being cast in the serialised version of Steve Martin’s 1989 film.
On Sunday evening, Golden Globes host Glaser showed no mercy when the actor’s colourful love life fell under the spotlight.
The 41-year-old comedian, hosting the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, gleefully took aim at several A-listers in the room – with the One Battle After Another star firmly in her sights.

Glaser swiftly followed up with an apology for the ‘cheap’ joke, admitting the famously private actor rarely gives the public much to work with beyond his dating history.
She then capped off the roast by asking whether ‘pasta, pasta, and more pasta’ was still his favourite food – a nod to his Teen Beat interview – prompting an amused ‘Yes’ from DiCaprio as the crowd erupted.
Ceretti, who first sparked romance rumors with DiCaprio in 2023, did not accompany him to the Golden Globes.
