Leona Lewis Reflects on Motherhood Ahead of Her First Las Vegas Residency

She welcomed her daughter, Carmel Allegra, with husband Dennis Jauch in July 2022.

And now, Leona Lewis, 40, has revealed how becoming a mother has shifted her entire outlook – making her more selective about the work she takes on.

Speaking to The Mirror, the singer explained: ‘I feel like it definitely unlocks a different part of your brain, you do start seeing things differently. It distils everything in such a way that you are just kind of picking out what’s really right for you.

‘What I truthfully really want to do. I feel like it cuts out a lot of the noise because you literally just don’t have the time to do everything, so you just pick out the golden nuggets.

Leona added: ‘I was definitely a big people pleaser – make people happy, be there for everyone. But sometimes the power is in the “no”.’

The chart-topping star admitted motherhood has completely changed her as a person – and now, she’s on a journey of rediscovery.

Leona also revealed that her love for her daughter has become a powerful muse, inspiring her upcoming music.

And for the first time ever, she’s stepping behind the controls – producing her own tracks.

Speaking to Capital FM DJ and This Morning presenter Sian Welby, she said: ‘I’m doing it all – writing, singing and producing.

‘I taught myself how to play the bass and the drums. I don’t want to do the same thing I did before.

‘How can I push myself? What can I achieve? It means that it’s very unfiltered, it’s very raw. With the birth of my daughter, I did not know the depth of love until she was born, and I’m writing a lot about that.’

Leona catapulted to fame nearly 20 years ago after wowing judges on The X Factor with her stunning rendition of Over The Rainbow.

She went on to become a Grammy-nominated global sensation, selling over 40 million records worldwide with hits like Bleeding Love and Run.

Now, fresh off the back of receiving an OBE from King Charles, the mother-of-one is gearing up for another career milestone – her first-ever Las Vegas residency.

She told The Mirror she is ‘very excited and scared, but more excited’ as she prepares to headline Voltaire at The Venetian – the same venue where Kylie Minogue launched her residency.

Performing in Sin City has been a dream long in the making for the powerhouse vocalist, who was first inspired by her idol Celine Dion.

She recalled attending a Celine Dion concert in Las Vegas 15 years ago and described the experience of seeing the singer bring her entire musical legacy to life on stage as ‘mind-blowing’.

Her show, titled A Starry Night, will run for 33 dates from November and is billed as a dazzling Christmas spectacular.

Leona also admitted she hasn’t ruled out working with The X Factor boss Simon Cowell, 65, again, teasing that he ‘has a few ideas’ and adding that if he ever asked her to do something, she wouldn’t say no, as he has supported her throughout the years.

She’s previously credited the ITV talent show with giving her a platform to raise awareness for causes close to her heart, including animal welfare and children’s rights.

A passionate campaigner, Leona has been involved in international lawmaking for animal rights and serves as a trustee for Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Brentwood, Essex.

Last month, her years of dedication were recognised when she was awarded an OBE at Windsor Castle – watched proudly by her entire family.

Leona will take to the stage in A Starry Night at the Voltaire in The Venetian Resort, Las Vegas, from November 1 to January 3.
