John Farnham is releasing his own candid memoir titled The Voice Inside, with the announcement coming more than a year after his surgery for mouth cancer.
Co-written with Poppy Stockwell, the 74-year-old Australian music legend is set to tell his very personal and public journey in his own words and with his signature humour.
The book will document Farnham’s early life and stardom growing up in Melbourne in the 1960s, to his comeback 1986 album Whispering Jack.
It will also tell the highs of his fame, as well as the lowest of lows – as his stellar career stalled, record companies turned their backs, and he faced financial ruin.
More recently, Farnham will reflect on his 2022 mouth cancer diagnosis, which occurred only months following the death of his friend and manager Glenn Wheatley.

The memoir, published by Hachette Australia, will be released in all formats in November 2024.
‘Having been asked many times, it finally felt like the right time to sit down and tell my story,’ Farnham said.
‘It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad, and now that I have started, it is all rushing back.
‘I hope the book engages and entertains, because that’s what so much of my life has been about.’
Meanwhile, Stockwell added: ‘Working with John on his memoir has been like sitting down with an old friend, who also happens to be an absolute legend, to share stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining.

‘His resilience and sense of humour shine through every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music. It’s been a joy to help bring his tales to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.’
Following his diagnosis in 2022 and subsequent surgery, Farnham remains cancer free.
The You’re the Voice hitmaker announced he was cancer free in August the following year.
In his first personal statement since surgery, the music superstar said he was finally in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family and felt like ‘the luckiest man I know’.

‘It’s been a year since my first surgery and to be honest I’ve lost count as to how many other procedures there’s been since then,’ he said.
‘I’m sure someone’s kept track of them all – let’s just say, there’s been a few.’
‘But, I’m home now and I’m a very grateful and happy man. I’m sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund.
Farnham went on to thank his fans for the well-wishes and support and said he was looking forward to his first celebratory meal – a pizza.
Farnham’s family had previously provided updates on behalf of the Australian music legend.
