It was the famous admissions tape that secured Elle Woods a place at Harvard Law School, a video essay in which she showcased her extracurricular and philanthropic endeavors.

So, it seems fitting that Lexi Minetree would create her own version to successfully snag the role of the fashion-forward student in the new Legally Blonde prequel, Elle.

The 25-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia described it as a ‘light-bulb moment’ after spotting the open casting call back in September 2024.

'I have to tell you - when I saw Lexi Minetree in her video, I was absolutely... it stopped me. It took my breath away,' said , who played the bubbly college student in the hit film.

With no family connections to give her a leg up and only a small role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit to her name, securing Woods may seem like a huge feat.

But not for Minetree who had spent years honing her skills, showcasing the same stubborn determination as her onscreen alter ego.

Reese Witherspoon, 50, chose Minetree, 25, to play Elle Woods and even broke the news to her in person (pictured together on June 23 at the NYC premiere)

‘It makes complete sense,’ said Grace Pompei, Minetree’s longtime voice teacher.

'She's really consistently worked so hard and every audition she's gotten, even if it was an open call and she didn't know what would happen, she's put her all into it,’ she told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview.

'Whenever we had our lessons, she was always so prepared and would do her warmups every day and she was really, really committed to improving her voice and putting in the time because it was new to her and she's also just very adventurous... She just throws herself into things even if she doesn't know the outcome, which I really admire about her.'

Pompei insisted Minetree 'truly earned this on her own accord' since she's 'quietly been working on her craft for years' and has always been 'consistent.'

Born to Anne Eiswirth, 58, and John Turner 'JT' Jones, 56, just months before Legally Blonde was released in July 2001, Minetree left her family to go to school at the University of Southern California where she graduated with a double major in theater and public relations. She also trained at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) in London.

Upon graduating in 2024, she moved to Brooklyn, New York where she pursued her acting career with vigor, doing whatever she could to land roles.

'I know she was taking dance classes because she wanted to [brush] up her dancing,’ said Pompei, who attended USC at the same time. ‘Voice lessons was really big. She was like, "It's been a goal of mine for forever to be better at singing," and I think she wanted to start auditioning for musicals more. So she was definitely working on herself artistically a lot.'

Always a brunette, it wasn't until her final days in college that Minetree decided to dye her hair blonde.

Minetree is the new Elle Woods in Prime Video's Elle, which was released on July 1st

The actress' voice coach told the Daily Mail: 'She's really consistently worked so hard and every audition she's gotten, even if it was an open call and she didn't know what would happen, she's put her all into it'

'We were in [a college production of] Legally Blonde together... and then she dyed her hair around graduation,’ said Pompei.

'I really feel like she was manifesting this and putting everything in place for that, because it didn't just happen out of the clear blue sky. She was really, really strategic.'

Minetree previously said going from brunette to blonde was 'more of a very random kismet thing.' Speaking to Who What Wear, she recalled how she only spent $30 at a salon school on the color change that started her transformation into Woods.

'I had just graduated college, and I was like: "I'm entering a new era of my life. I want a big change because I naturally have brown hair, and I'm a college student,"' she said.

But not being a natural blonde isn't the only secret Minetree has been hiding.

For the Daily Mail can reveal that Minetree was born Alexandra Minetree Jones, according to legal court documents filed by her parents.

Minetree also happens to be her mother's middle name.

Her mom, an accountant based in Duluth, Georgia, divorced Lexi's father John Turner Jones II in December 2002, when the actress was just one-and-a-half years old. This, per records seen by the Daily Mail, was Eiswirth's second marriage (she was previously married 1991 to 1994).

Minetree was born brunette and dyed her hair blonde at the end of college. Her pal told the Daily Mail that dying her hair helped 'manifest' her breakout role

Minetree's father shared photos from the New York City premiere on Facebook, captioning it: 'So proud of my little baby at her premiere for #ElleOnPrime'

Her grandfather was the late Walter B. Russell Jr., a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and was also Chair of the Dekalb County commissioners.

Following the finalization of her parents’ divorce - they settled for joint legal and physical custody of Minetree - her father, who is an executive assistant and musician from Colorado, filed twice to modify child support - once in 2009 and again in 2017.

In Jones' petition to modify child support in 2017, he informed the court that the child support - Jones paying Eiswirth - was '18 percent of the husband's gross income.' He requested the court modify this since 'there has been a change in circumstances warranting a downward modification of child support in that the incomes of the parties have changed and the needs of the child have changed.'

Eiswirth noted in her response filing that she wanted the court to dismiss his request for a modification of child support and asked that he be responsible for her attorney's fees.

In the final order, it was decided that the father would pay Eiswirth $777 per month for child support until Minetree reached 18 years old, as well as pay his ex a lump sum payment of $18,500 'to satisfy his outstanding child support arrearages.' The court also ordered that each party pay for his or her own attorney's fees.

Eiswirth has since remarried for the third time to a man by the name of Richard Eiswirth. The pair got married in 2004 and have been together since. They have two sons, Ike and Jackson.

Jones also remarried, tying the knot with Jennifer Jones with whom he has daughter Shelby.

Now, Minetree has been welcomed into a new family, that of Hollywood veteran Witherspoon.

The actress posed for a photo with her castmates at the Elle premiere in NYC (pictured are Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano, Zac Looker, June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott and Jacob Moskovitz)

Minetree spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her bond with the actress, who serves as an executive producer on the new show.

'She has been so fantastic during this whole process,' Minetree said. 'She is always checking in on me. She'll like, always send me little voice memos like, "Don't forget to drink water and get rest!"'

Meanwhile, Pompei told the Daily Mail: 'They are [close]. [Lexi's] told me that Reese has been so incredibly kind and supportive and I know that they text back and forth.

'I think she really said that she felt so, so supported by Reese and that she really wanted to make her feel like she had this in the bag, "you got this," that she trusted Lexi to carry on this legacy and that she always had, especially just dealing with how much her life is changing and the sudden fame.

'Reese has made it clear that she is there to support her through that because she's gone through stuff that's similar. So yes, I think she really has a very strong mentor figure in Reese.’

Minetree stars alongside June Diane Raphael (Eva Woods), Tom Everett Scott (Wyatt Woods), Chandler Kinney (Kimberly), and Jessica Belkin (Madison) in the eight-episode prequel which premiered on Prime Video on July 1.

It follows Woods’ integration into high school in Seattle after a botched nose job by her plastic surgeon father forces them to move away.
