Lauren Silverman shares a snap with shirtless fiancé Simon Cowell as she reflects on her ‘isolating’ New Year after deciding to go sober

Lauren Silverman has shared a snap with her husband-to-be Simon Cowell as she revealed she is ‘grateful’ for her relationship with the music mogul going into 2026.

Despite the happy snap, the American socialite and entrepreneur, 48, said that she can find New Year ‘isolating and difficult’ because of her decision to go sober.

The couple, who are set to tie the knot this year, spent the holiday at their home in Barbados and shared a poolside snap to honour the occasion.

She took to her newly-created Instagram account on Wednesday to share the snap of Simon, 66, who was shirtless and wearing a pair of pale blue board shorts.

The former X Factor boss was sporting his signature aviator sunglasses, as Lauren posed with her arms around him.

Lauren – who has already legally changed her surname to Cowell – looked chic in a plunging black swimsuit and matching sarong and a pair of stylish sunglasses.

The backdrop of the photograph revealed the idyllic location as they brought in the New Year in the sunshine, after also spending Christmas there.

However, she did also highlight her struggles at this time of year, as she discussed how hard it can be to be the only person not drinking at celebrations.

Lauren explained: ‘This is my second New Year’s Eve without alcohol. Sometimes nights like this can feel difficult and isolating.

Especially when you’re the only one not drinking on a celebratory night. But it’s so worth it. If you’re trying, struggling or just thinking about it – I see you. I know how it feels and you’ve got this.

‘Here’s to a new year of clarity, presence, strength and feeling good in your own skin. One day at a time.’

Lauren celebrated the first anniversary of her sobriety journey last month, as she reflected on how much her relationships and mental health have improved since quitting booze.

She took to social media to reveal that she’d decided to ditch alcohol a year ago, getting candid with her followers about the way her life has evolved.

She admitted that going sober had helped her ‘show up better’ for her children and Simon, while also improving her sleep, moods and confidence.

Lauren – who shares son Eric, 11, with Simon and son Adam, 19, with her ex-husband – added that going alcohol-free had enabled her to enjoy nights out ‘without having the dread the next morning of trying to remember the things I did’.

While she confessed to being hesitant about sharing her sobriety story, she explained that she had chosen to mark the milestone publicly because she was proud of her achievement and hoped it could encourage others thinking about giving up drinking.

She wrote: ‘Yesterday marked one year alcohol-free for me. I went back and forth on whether to post this.

‘But in the end, I realised I am proud of it. And if sharing helps even one person who’s been thinking about it, then it’s worth saying out loud.

‘Choosing not to drink this past year has brought me so many unexpected benefits – clearer mind, more focus, better sleep, steadier moods, more energy, more confidence, having deeper and more meaningful conversations with people on nights out without having to face the dread the next morning of trying to remember the things I did or didn’t say!’

Reflecting on how much she’d learned about herself, Lauren added that going sober had aided her in prioritising her loved ones.

She said: ‘It’s also given me a real sense of peace I didn’t know was missing. It’s helped me be more present and show up better for my kids and for Simon and for the people and things in my life that are important to me.

‘It’s helped my mental health in ways I didn’t anticipate… I’ve learned a lot about myself along the way.’

She concluded her heartfelt message: ‘I’m not telling anyone what they should do… just that if the idea has been nudging you, even a little, you might be surprised by how good it can feel.

‘Here’s to growth, clarity, and doing what’s right for YOU ❤️’.

The post comes just a week after Lauren quietly launched her Instagram account, tellingly choosing to use the surname Cowell in her handle.

And it appears to not just be a social media choice, as according to The Sun she has officially taken on Simon’s name, despite not yet tying the knot.

Lauren is said to have chosen to become a Cowell in order to share the same last name as her fiancé and their son.

The publication also claims that while Simon still drinks, Lauren has encouraged him to follow in her stead, with the music mogul cutting down on his boozing in recent years.

He previously revealed that he was smoking and drinking at just eight years old and once admitted to drinking vodka at ‘one or two in the morning’ to enter a ‘calm place’ and spark his creativity.

However, the star overhauled his lifestyle after breaking his back in several places when he crashed his electric bike near his Malibu home back in 2020.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge was almost left paralysed in the horror accident and underwent six hours of surgery, including having a metal rod put in his back.

The ordeal caused him to adopt regular sleeping and exercise habits, switching to a healthier and mostly-vegan diet, and swapping out booze for water, helping him shed around 4st.

Simon’s relationship with Lauren is set to come under scrutiny in his new Netflix docuseries, The Next Act, with insiders claiming fans can expect to see the duo’s dynamic ‘warts and all’.

The six-part series will be released next Wednesday and follows the Syco star as he tries to make a band – with notoriously private Lauren making regular features.

She was said to be initially reluctant to be a part of the series but ‘fans will get to see first-hand just how big a part of Simon’s life she is’.

A source told The Sun: ‘This will be the making of Lauren. Initially she was reluctant to be a part of it, but the crew were everywhere and in the end it was impossible to avoid. It was only fair to viewers to show the ‘real’ Lauren and Simon – warts and all.

‘There’s a scene in the show where you see them really bickering and it makes for very tense, uncomfortable viewing. People will get to see first-hand just how big a part of Simon’s life she is, and what a brilliantly real couple they actually are.

‘While Simon, being Simon, might like to think he wears the trousers in their relationship, it is evident just how much she brings to the table — and what a calming influence she is on him.’

In a teaser for the show, the couple are seeing getting in a tense exchange over Simon attending the graduation ceremony of Lauren’s son Adam.

In the brief clip, she appears at the end of her rope with Simon, as he sits slumped in a chair and hooked up to an IV drip administering vitamins.

Lauren insists: ‘I never complain. I’m just there for you because that’s what you do when you love somebody.’

She then asks for her microphone to be removed and storms out of the room, as Simon is heard saying: ‘Oh Lauren.’

The couple first met in Barbados in 2004 but didn’t start dating until around 2012, while Lauren was still married to millionaire property developer Andrew Silverman.

Their affair became public – and Simon’s life changed – at the end of July 2013 when news broke of Lauren’s pregnancy with son Eric.

In 2015, Simon told Mail on Sunday Event magazine: ‘I’m not proud of the circumstances, I can’t hold my head up about it.’

And of the pregnancy, he admitted: ‘This was not something I planned. But I remember going to the first scan with Lauren.

‘I called him Tad because he looked like a tadpole. Something just kicked in. I felt unbelievably protective of both of them. I just absolutely wanted him. I just hadn’t known that before.’

Despite previously insisting that he ‘didn’t believe’ in marriage, the X Factor creator reassessed his views after falling in love with Lauren – who was left ‘stunned’ when he proposed in 2021.

Simon – who has a net worth of approximately $600million – previously said he would never wed as he worried what would happen to his fortune, saying: ‘The truth is that you get married and in a year or two they clean you out! It’s just not going to work.
