Actress Lauren London is marking the fifth-year anniversary of the death of her longtime partner Nipsey Hussle with an emotional Instagram tribute.

London, 39, shared a photo of the late rapper (born Ermias Joseph Asghedom) striking a confident pose along with some heartfelt words suggesting that the father of her son may rise up to his given name.

‘If you know me, you know March is always tough for me,’ the actress wrote of the Dedication star who’s seen dressed in a white Puma sweatsuit.

’31 days of holding my breath,’ she continued. ‘This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024. Interesting…. considering your name #GodWillRise.’

The Los Angeles native concluded by writing, ‘Energy never dies…. I love you. Eternal.’

Just over six years ago, Hussle revealed that his first name actually translates to ‘GOD WILL RISE’ in an Facebook post back on January 2, 2018.

‘My 1st Name Ermias Translates to “GOD WILL RISE”, he wrote at the time, before adding, ‘I Thank My Mom and Dad for Such A Powerful Calling!’ 

That’s why London is suggesting that maybe his spirit is rising with this Easter death anniversary this year.

The Victory Lap rapper was just 33, when he was gunned down in the parking lot of his Marathon Clothing Company shop in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. 

Police say Hussle was shot at least 10 times, while two other male bystanders were wounded in the shooting.

The wordsmith had been in the process of starting a foundation to improve his LA neighborhood at the time of his death, and that he had just reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department to discuss ways to help prevent gang violence. 

While the late rapper’s hit songs are well known with fans, he also took pride in giving back through activism and philanthropy. 

Since his passing, London has done her best to honor his work as a means of keeping his memory alive.

Police ended up arresting alleged Crips gang member Eric Ronald Holder Jr., then 29, just days after in connection to the deadly shooting.

Ultimately, the alleged Crips gang member was found guilty in July 2022 of first-degree murder, plus on two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm after his gunfire wounded two bystanders. He was sentenced to at least 60 years in prison in February 2023. 

Holder got an additional 10 years in prison on assault convictions for the shooting of those two other men that frightful day.

Emerging from the West Coast hip-hop scene in the mid-2000, Hussle released an independently released his debut mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1, generating moderate local success, but enough to build a small regional fanbase on the West Coast,

He would go one to release a number of singles, mixtapes and collaborations though Epic Records, ultimately leading to his only studio album, Victory Lap (2018), via Hussle’s label All Money In No Money Out and Atlantic Records.  

The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, eventually peaking at number two in April 2019, soon after his death.

His only major commercial release would also earn a nomination for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. 

London and Hussle dated from 2013 through until his death in 2019. During that time they welcomed their son, Kross, now seven, to the world. 

The rapper also had a daughter Emani, from a previous relationship. 

The ATL star also has a 14-year-old son, Kameron, that she co-parents with the boy’s father, Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.), 41.

The actress admitted to ‘being in a really dark space’ while going through a long period of depression, following the loss of Hussle. 

Over the years she had been candid about missing her former partner, which included during a podcast last year  where she revealed that she tries to focus on finding inner peace and celebrate the everyday triumphs, via parenting and her career.

In 2022, London and her son were on hand to watch Hussle posthumously receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on what would have been his 37th birthday, in which she spoke at the event. 

‘I think I speak for the entire city of L.A. when I say that we’ve always known Hussle was destined for greatness,’ she said during her speech at the ceremony. ‘This moment only amplifies this for us. Nip would’ve been honored by this moment.’
