Kyle Sandilands left viewers in shock with an ‘offensive’ comment made about an Australian Idol hopeful in Monday night’s episode.
The judge, 52, did not shy away from sharing his honest and unfiltered opinions on singer and camel farmer Trent Richardson’s latest performance.
Trent, known for his twangy vocal stylings, belted out a classic country rendition of Matchbox Twenty’s hit 3am after being given three songs to choose from by the judges.
Though the audience enjoyed his performance, Kyle appeared unconvinced as he compared Trent’s voice to Muppet character Kermit the Frog, leaving the crowds in shock.
Giving his verdict, the shock jock said: ‘You’re very well liked, people like you, people talk about you. I can’t stop hearing Kermit the Frog though, every time you sing.’

As the live audience groaned in dismay, Kyle doubled down with an impression as he went on: ‘It is your sound, though, I was thinking, this guy’s Kermit!’
As the crowds started booing and sharing their annoyance, Kyle went on: ‘You’ve all heard it! Nothing wrong with Kermit! I dunno why you’re booing Kermit!’ before telling an audience member to ‘shut up’.
Adding a more positive spin, he added: ‘I’ve begun to enjoy you, even though I could really hear that all the time,’ before doing a second Kermit The Frog impression.
‘I like it, I think you did that song really well, but that was my stumbling block with you, that real twangy – it was difficult to get over,’ he added.
His fellow judge Amy Shark looked unimpressed by Kyle’s verdict and insisted that singers with a twang can still find success, prompting the audience to clap her.
She then told Trent: ‘The great thing about you that I’m really digging is that every time you’re on that stage, you’re more comfortable.

‘And if the twang is who you are, let the twang be who you are. Learn to open up your vowels, that’s all I’m gonna say to you, but I enjoyed that immensely.’
Kyle’s unfiltered remark left viewers at home divided as some took to social media to share their shock over his comparison.
One fumed: ‘Kyle is an even bigger a**hole than I originally thought. Kermit, my ass.’
But another agreed with Kyle as they wrote of Trent’s performance: ‘I love that he enjoys himself. And I hate to admit it but Kyle could be onto something. Trent did sound strange in the beginning.’
