Kyle and Jackie O dominate Sydney’s FM ratings, gain momentum in Melbourne

The Kyle and Jackie O Show has continued the year on a high.

On Tuesday, KIIS 106.5’s flagship breakfast program topped the Sydney radio ratings for the 44th consecutive time.

Data from the latest GFK radio survey revealed Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson were Sydney’s number one FM breakfast radio hosts.

The radio show achieved a share of 14.1 per cent, and attracted a weekly audience of 696,000 Sydneysiders.

The popular breakfast show has also gained momentum in Melbourne, boosting KIIS’ audience up by 48,000 to 502,000 listeners.

ARN Chief Content Officer Duncan Campbell said: ‘Despite their 25 years on air together, The Kyle & Jackie O Show is still a brand-new show for Melbourne, and we are encouraged by these early results.’

‘In particular, the increase in cume demonstrates that the show is attracting new listeners and as that cume is converted to loyal listening, we’ll see share increasing.’

‘We know it’ll take a few more surveys before their presence truly starts to resonate with the Melbourne audience, but we’re excited to build on this foundation and are confident that Kyle & Jackie O will continue to capture the hearts of Melbourne listeners just as they have in Sydney.’

On April 29, Kyle and Jackie O took their breakfast radio to Melbourne in a huge multimillion dollar expansion deal.

The move saw Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins and Lauren Phillips’ breakfast show get shafted.

An unapologetic Kyle said he felt indifferent to his competitors getting axed, as it ultimately came down to who was attracting the most listeners.

‘No, I don’t care. That’s why we went for Melbourne, we were like, “We’ve given this Jase and Lauren on KIIS FM a good run, it can’t get over fourth in the radio ratings, so we’ll take it”‘ he told news.com.au.

He added that The Kyle and Jackie O Show was moved to Melbourne because there was a ‘market in trouble’ and it was thought their program could help regain listeners.

However, Kyle’s co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson took a different approach, adding while she didn’t like competitors getting axed it was unfortunately the reality of the business.

‘No one ever wants to move someone out of a job. I wouldn’t want that to happen to me. It’s a double edged sword, it really is,’ she said.
