The feature piece, which is also produced by Kristen, tells the story of a woman who becomes a competitive swimmer after surviving an abusive childhood.
Kirsten presented the film at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in May, where the film was met with critical acclaim following its screening.
The actress co-wrote the screenplay with Andy Mingo, while British star Imogen Poots has been tapped to star as Yuknavitch, portraying the story of her tumultuous life.
‘Lidia’s memoir honours corporeal experience, radically’ Kristen told Deadline.
‘To make that experience physical feels vital to me and what this impulse means…is that it absolutely must be a film.’
She added: ‘This project has been cooking for five years with the help of Scott Free, whom I could not be more privileged to have as partners and friends.’
Nouvelle Vague is set to hit select theatres on October 31, before landing on Netflix on November 14.
